On the water at Lockside in Leeds city centre (4 mins from the train station south exit) we’ve built the kind of place we’d want to hang out in ourselves. Whether you’re after a drink, a snack, something comforting, or the full set menu with paired wines, our menu format means that you can choose the style of food you're in the mood for.

The food served here is the food we love to eat. Big flavours, plenty of fat, fire, and that comforting familiarity. Expect delicious food & drinks, great music and top notch service without any faff

We’ve put just as much thought into the drinks. There are over ten craft beers and ales on tap, loads more in the fridge, and a wine list that’s full of supposing little gems. We’ve also got a mix of classic cocktails and a few of our own, inspired by what’s happening in the kitchen.

The view’s pretty special. The atmosphere’s laid-back but buzzy.

                                    The building itself was difficult to find but really well presented inside. The staff were, on the whole, attentive and friendly. We booked a later table and I wonder if this made a difference to our overall experience. We booked the tasting menu after looking at what was offered on the website; we did not get the same dishes as advertised and wasn't sure if this was due to availability (no bread, no beef). All the dishes were lovely but all very sauce based and lacked that filling quality. Towards the end of the evening ,and as a last serving, it started to feel like the experience slipped; staff started packing away etc. My husband's desert was missing an ingredient which changed it completely. When we mentioned it, the server said that it had been a long day in the kitchen. It was also the smaller details: it was my husband's birthday and I had mentioned it but it wasn't acknowledged at all; these finer details are what add to your experience when choosing for those special occasions.

                                    Delicious, ample and fresh small plates accompanied by the cote du bouef, divine 😋 The ambience was perfect. The cremant and the cocktails delightful. Our waitress was lovely, we will be back, and if you've not been yet you should!

                                    Liz Cottam's new venue does not disappoint. Food was delicious, enjoyed the view of the canal and people watching, and the service was impeccable. Can't wait to visit when fully finished soon.

                                    Good tasting menu in the revamped far cosier old Owl restaurant. Excellent beers and wines. Bit odd though having two crab dishes on a 6 course tasting menu.

                                    fabulous lunch with friends, great advice from staff about what to order and how much. The tomato toast was a stand out favourite. Nice and quiet for lunch which is what we wanted.

                                    Absolutely divine! We were visiting Leeds for an overnight, and this was the perfect place to eat. Our servers were accommodating and welcoming. The food was a mix of fresh and rich flavours and everything was heartening. Wild mushroom toast, crab souffle, crispy butter-fried potatoes, tomato salad with split basil dressing and the milk bomb - and the chef popped her head out as we were leaving. It felt warmly informal and a superb location. We will happily be back.

                                    The Owl was one of our favourite restaurants and, although it's different, emba is going to be too. Congratulations to Elizabeth Cottam! It was great to see it busy too, with a great, relaxed atmosphere. And some great new additions to the team too. We're lucky to live on the doorstep and look forward to many future visits.

                                    My crab souffle to start was rich and decedent and just the right portion size. The Pork chop for my main was melt in the mouth so I guess it must of been through some kind of brining process as it was the best pork chop I have ever eaten! The only criticism were the side dishes.... only two options, roast or mash potatoes (we ordered both) but I would of loved to see some type of kale dish to balance out the richness of the pork and buttery mash.
