Founding Farmers - DC

Had reservations, but waited an extra 30 minutes to be seated. Then ordered an appetizer, which never came.
Trendy, modern, good service, lively bar scene and great food.
However, it was pretty loud and completely full on a Thursday evening at 6 PM.
Perhaps the problem was we were hoping for a romantic dinner and this wasn't the right choice for us tonight.
The food was lovely.
Service was fantastic. Sausage pasta was awesome!
I loved dining here. The food was outstanding. I also would recommend the Founding Farmers vodka. It doesn't taste like most vodkas. It has more of a tequila taste and feel to it but it was really good. Have it with soda to get the best taste. Any of the food choices are great!
This was our third visit and we were disappointed. It took 30 minutes past our reservation time before we were seated. We were told it was because people could buy tables. What is the point of a reservation if you still have a long wait? Also, one of our party’s orders was messed up. While the food was good, it was overshadowed by lackluster service.
Good food, very quick arrival of food, somewhat slow on receiving alcoholic drinks at the table
Everything was fantastic! My husband had been there quite a few times and brought my parents from out of town for their first visit and they were blown away about how wonderful the entire meal and experience was. Thank you!
Have heard good things about this restaurant, and it was a nice sample of the contemporary DC scene. Food was very good. It was awfully noisy—some softer surfaces would help.
Amazing tasty fresh food!
We had a great time eating at Founding Farmers the food was a good and the atmosphere was fun. I only give it 3 stars because they are not able to accommodate people with any kind of food allergies. I unfortunately can not have Gluten. There were very few options available to me and the waiter was not very knowledgeable in this area. In their defense they do state on their menu that they can not accommodate allergies. This was a place I knew my family wanted to eat while we were in town so I made it work but wouldn’t have picked this place otherwise and wouldn’t recommend it to people with dietary restrictions.
Very nice restaurant, nice bustling atmosphere. Only downside was the temperature was cold and I had to keep my jacket on during lunch
The corn bread and coffee are good. We arrived early and were told to wait but seated a lot of walks ins before they would sit us. We reserved a table of five but had to take a booth for four because we waited 25 minutes before we were offered that choice. Unfortunately, I think there is a lot of new staff; I had been there before and had a great experience, the service seems to have degraded a bunch and it was definitely a disappointment that our reservation was not honored.
Amazing food. Wonderful service. All at a good price. Can't beat that.
I felt rushed when I was there I was not done eating and the waiter was grabbing plates before I finished
Not a huge deal, but we had reservations at 8 pm and weren’t seated until 8:25:8:30. First time using open table and not being seated within 5 minutes of the reservation time.
Food was good and our server was nice. All in all it was good, but the wait with a reservation was a tad difficult because we have a 2 year old.
It was ny second time there. The first time was 5 stars accros the board. This time the food was disappointing. Jose was my waiter both times and he was fantastic!
The food was incredible. We had a reservation and waited over 30 minutes to be seated. The service was terrible. The server only came to our table twice and was not at all friendly. I’d love to give them a second chance in hopes that he was just having a bad day
The hostess and front supervisor did not honor our reservation. We arrived early, and they made us wait an hour to be seated. Our server was great. The appetizer wings were the bright spot of a disappointing experience. They were out of bread to make prime rib dip sandwich. Plan B was steak and enchiladas - they were good but not hot enough for cheese to be melted. And they were out of the cookies we selected for dessert. Very popular restaurant that is loud and the servers are stretched-thin.
2nd floor smelled of fryer oil. Not a surprise as the menu is has plenty of deep fried food. 2nd floor manager patrolled and stopped at nearly every table assessing progression of guests. At no point did I feel like a guest. Local produce and sustainability are championed by FF, but ironically there are very few vegetable inspired plates. Overly crowded vestibule with overly unpleasant staff. One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had.
I see the attraction for a certain customer, but I find there is a premium cost that is not supported by the service and food itself.
We spent three or four times as much the night before (another restaurant) but the value of the food and experience was appropriate and exceptional.
In summary, my issue is not with the cost per se, but the value of that outlay here.
From a travelers point of view, the food was overpriced for the selection they provide however, the crab dip was AMAZING.
Amazing!!!! Loved the goat cheese ravioli. Will be back soon
They need to understand that an appetizer is served before dinner, not with it. Felt rushed.
Ordered a drink from bar while we waited to be seated! Bar service and drinks were amazing. The service from our server was AWFUL! The server wasn't helpful with menu so we just ordered something for our kids to eat since we waited for over hour for our table when we made reservations. (the kids were super hungry).
If you are interested in awful service and to wait over hour after your reservations then this is the place to go!
It was a ‘so-so’ experience. The reviews for this place were exceptional, but I don’t feel it is warranted. Ultimately, I feel it didn’t live up to the hype.
Great food and ambiance. However the waitress tried to cheat on the payment I mad which is highly unprofessional.
Great food! The stuffed french toast is a must, totally worth it. And the Hashes are always a good call. Bloody mary is spicy the way its meant to be! Would def make another trip here. Only complaint was service was a little slow on taking our orders but overall great experience!
Delicious breakfast. Good service. Crowded on a Sunday morning but service and food was very good.
This was my 3rd time at Founding Farmers and each time I was not disappointed! The food, the ambiance, the hostesses, the waitstaff... all friendly, professional and efficient. I will be sure to visit each and every time in the DC area!
40 minute wait past our reservation time. Seemed to be short staffed based on long waits for basics such as silverware and water. Long wait for appetizer, then entrees came out less than 5 minutes afterward. No mention/recognition of the special occasion that we noted on our reservation.
We made a point to return to this restaurant based on our experience the last time we were in town. (We are from several states away.) Food was still good, but we will probably try someplace different in the future based on the slow and impersonal service.
We had an 8:30 reservation. Upon check in, we were told it would be at least a 20-30 minute wait. The restaurant was running that much behind and then some for ALL reservations, plus a 90 minute walk in wait. This means the lobby was packed and It was thunderously loud. As it happens, one of my dining companions and I are both 6+ months pregnant and thus standing to wait was really unpleasant. We asked about any seating to no avail. After seating, the waitress disappeared for about 10-15 minutes meaning our drinks probably came more than an hour after our reservation time and appetizers were out almost 10 pm. I’ve beeb to FF before and it’s been lively but brisk prompt service. This definitely took away a lot from the experience. The manager comped our appetizers, which was definitely a nice gesture, but I don’t think we will return any time soon. It’s atill a great option fairly near the national mall for visitors, but for locals, you can find many as good restaurants that aren’t nearly as nutty in other neighborhoods.
Very much enjoyed our meal. Highly recommend the wings. Service was attentive and friendly.
As always, phenomenal food, friendly waitstaff, and quick service. But I couldn’t hear the sound of my own voice, much less that of the visitor I had brought with me. Maybe this would be better after 9PM or so, but the noise truly was unbearable. Don’t go here if you want to converse with the person you’re coming with, at least between 5:30-9.
Only down side was an hour wait but the food was worth it.
I love it! I have been there a couple of times and I always want to go back.
Great food and good service. Great chicken and waffles
Had a pleasant experience and a delicious meal. All the food was fresh and delicious. They were courtestous and hospitible enough to honor my reservation even when my brunch companion was late.
I will eat here again.
Best brunch ever!!!
we were recommended to eat here by a family member and it was so good we came back for breakfast 2 days later. the corn bread was amazing, it is a must if you visit this place.
