Founding Farmers - DC

The various dishes were hit or miss. The cornbread and crab dip appetizer at work very good, but the spare ribs, which three of the four members of our party had, were fatty.
The service was excellent, however, in the ambience, while loud, was good. If we do this restaurant again, we will be very careful with our menu selections.
Visiting from Nashville , food was delicious 👏🏾
Will highly recommend & return again .
Brought an out of towner here for his first visit to DC in years. The food was amazing! We devoured everything on our plates. He loved it so much! Can't wait to come back
The food was great!
Awesome breakfast with my family during our stay in Washington. We need a place like this down in Wall township, NJ
Founding Farmers never disappoints! Great drinks, great food, great atmosphere! Worth the drive for me.
Mid-week business lunch was not only memorable but delicious! Great trendy vive, outstanding service and and a very colorful, creative menu!
The food never disappoints! Great portions, tasty, and a good variety. The service is not always good I have had it when it is too slow or the sever has not been professional which takes away from the experience.
First time with a not so great experience. Two dishes were not up to the diner’s expectation. Sent one dish back. Drinks were not timely or well made. Service was slow and not well timed. Waited after being served appetizers for 10 minutes for utensils. Occasion was a birthday celebration so did not want to complain too much or ruin the evening by leaving on low energy!
Pre-Hamilton dinner. We arrived early, immediately seated at a small table next to a pillar. Sound level was good - until they cranked it up to a point where even the waitress had to bend in close (see comment below) and repeat herself to be heard. I wanted the Steak Frites cooked medium rare, but the waitress said they would only cook it well done, so went with Shrimp and Grits and my wife ordered Steak Salad. Her steak was almost raw, so tough that she could not cut it with a steak knife. My shrimp was really soupy, and even though the shrimp was deshelled I still managed to bite into several whole shrimp shells that were not strained out of the broth. Not very appetizing.
One other comment: tables were very close together, and wait staff appear to be trained to squeeze in between to take orders. No problem until another party was seated at the next table; the waitress ended up moving things on our table with her butt while taking their order.
I have eaten at FF in Rockville several times and had much better experiences.
We had dinner at Founding Farmers prior to seeing a show at the Kennedy Center. The location was perfect, just a few minutes drive to the venue, and the food was AMAZING. The portion was huge, and more than enough food for dinner -- neither of us could finish, but we enjoyed it immensely!
The impossible burger was soooooo good. I would have never guess it was plant based.
Great food and atmosphere . The food was amazing, good portions. Must try the butternut cake.
Nice breakfast spot. Eggs were watery and the side of tomato was two uncooked thin slices of tomato (seriously!) but otherwise food was pretty good.
Great food and ambience. Staff is very helpful and polite. Kid friendly.
I would not recommend this restaurant unless you want cold food that supposed to be served hot and a waiter who must be running a marathon demonstrating a lack of attention only topped by his lack of respect, the man was in a rush. The devil eggs were delicious
Everything about this place was amazing but it is essential to reserve a table using OpenTable well in advance as the wait is generally 1 hour if not.
I do not enjoy the waiter standing in between the tables with their rear end very very very close to your table and food
Went back after sometime away and lunch was just ok, two burgers and beers $50 + tip. Should have gone to Shake Shack. Menu needs to freshen up, but few places to eat in area.
Very noisy. Food platting was not appealing
Was a great time with my daughter - great service, food and table was ready and waiting for us
We made a reservation beforehand and we were seated promptly. Food was good, although they brought out the wrong dish for one member of our party initially. They were able to prepare the correct dish and bring it out shortly. Restaurant staff was attentive and asked us how we were doing several times. Overall, food was good and no major complaints.
Delicious food in generous portions! The restaurant serves great southern comfort food theme mixed with modern downtown city elegance.
The cornbread was delicious, and the risottos were all great (especially the risotto served with the cauliflower head)!
Good food, service was a little slow but server was delightful. It was very crowded - and very loud. Will go again (this wan't my first time) but I prefer quieter restaurants.
the food is always good. I find the tables a bit close together for my liking, but given how crowded it always is, I get it.
Founding Farmers is fantastic! The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent as were the drinks. We will be back!
It was our first time dining there and Leah took great care of us. My father didn’t enjoy his drink and she quickly got him another one and checked in often to make sure we enjoyed our meal. She was also knowledgeable and gave us great suggestions
Great American food. Nothing creative or artificial here, except for the ‘impossible burguer’: a veggie burger that tastes like beef! Place sits on the base of the IMF. Expect it filled with international bureaucrats at lunch time during the week. Avoid those hours if possible, better to go in the early evening on a weekend. And no worries, the place will still be crowded.
Famous dessert: the beignets (some doughnut balls with french naming)
Note: My girlfriend, a hygiene freak, says the carpet is smelly and there are crumbs on the chairs. (Avoid this place if you are afraid of crumbs)
It took forever for our server to take our order. Some of the food was cold when it finally came out. And the food was definitely not worth the price.
Very good! So busy. Definitely make a reservation which we luckily did. Our server was okay. Didn’t write anything down but I think he should have. Forgot to give us water, sugar, double checked our order on his way back. Def not a sea breaker because he was so busy. I don’t know if they were short staffed but it was crazy in there. Servers all seemed stressed. Great food, a little over priced. But overall would go again!
We had a wonderful brunch there during our DC family vacation. Everything was delicious especially the beignets and the thick cut bacon (Black Pepper Maple). The only thing I was disappointed was both kids ordered Chocolate Milk but the server said they were out of chocolate sauce.
Usually one of my favorite places to bring out of town guests to for Sunday brunch. Last Sunday they missed the mark. The food wasn’t up to par and the service was blah.
Food was SOOO good and fresh! Getting the food out and taking our order was a bit slower but the restaurant was very busy (I went on a saturday night). If youre looking to go on a weekend, book at least a week in advance (maybe even two); their reservations fill up very quickly!
A friend visiting Washington recommend this restaurant and we are so glad we visited while we were there as well. Food was great, waiter was knowledgeable, and the atmosphere was so nice.
Had Saturday morning breakfast. Was very good. Gets busy after 1000AM so recommended seating before 900AM, or a reservation. Great atmosphere.
It’s worth the hype, but it’s not cheap! The food was good, but quite pricey for breakfast fare. $7.50 for 3 pieces of bacon was a wee bit much. Timing was the biggest issue we had. All of our food came out at one time. We’d ordered beignets for our “appetizer” but they came out with our breakfast entrees, so they were cold when we finally got to them.
I ordered the vanilla stuffed French Tost but it was waaaay too bready for me, very big pieces of bread. But my eggs with cheddar and my hash browns were great! Also, it was my husbands birthday and he got thenthick cut black pepper maple bacon and the beef pastrami hash and loved it. The plate practically looked licked clean. It was his birthday so that’s what matters most to me—he was happy. Also, he ordered a specialty cocktail and loved it (it had ginger and fresh cucumbers).
I will recommend rsvp ahead of time to cut down on the wait time. Excellent food. I will always return!!!
