Unfortunately, the dish lacked the signature complexity and richness of flavor that make it special. It was also carelessly plated, with the pasta simply slapped onto the plate without any elegance.\n\nWe also tried a selection of appetizers: fried polenta sticks, stuffed artichoke, and a salad. The polenta was decent, with a nice texture and crispness, but the stuffed artichoke was underwhelming—the breadcrumbs were unevenly packed and fell apart easily, making it messy and unpleasant to eat. When comparing the Gargiulo’s location in Brooklyn to the one in Tinton Falls, NJ, the differences are quite stark. The Tinton Falls outpost lacks the presentation, depth, and authenticity that define true Italian fare. I ordered the cacio e pepe—a classic Roman dish celebrated for its simplicity and balance—which was served over bucatini. Unfortunately, the dish lacked the signature complexity and richness of flavor that make it special. It was also carelessly plated, with the pasta simply slapped onto the plate without any elegance.
We also tried a selection of appetizers: fried polenta sticks, stuffed artichoke, and a salad. The polenta was decent, with a nice texture and crispness, but the stuffed artichoke was underwhelming—the breadcrumbs were unevenly packed and fell apart easily, making it messy and unpleasant to eat. The salad was disappointing as well, clearly made with canned beets, which detracted from any sense of freshness or quality.
While the Brooklyn location carries a sense of culinary tradition and pride, the Tinton Falls location feels more like an imitation, lacking both the finesse and authenticity that define true Italian dining.
Service was good and our waiter, Skylar was attentive. This location also has valet which is convenient.
