Hostaria OsottoOsopra was born from a fortuitous meeting, between the streets of Venice.
With a coffee and a chat, the dream of opening a restaurant with friends seemed to really take shape for the first time.
In August 2017, those that were initially only ideas are transformed into reality, within the walls of a former pub in Calle San Pantalon, a stone's throw from Campo Santa Margherita.It would not make sense to open yet another tourist place in Venice, only to then get confused among the many restaurants around the city.
No, Hostaria OsottoOsopra was supposed to be something different.
It had to be a place to feel at home, where eating well in Venice became possible at a reasonable price and where the service, always in the hand but always elegant, made me want to come back.
At the opening, Hosteria OsottoOsopra looked like this: with the atmosphere of a typical Venetian hostaria, but from the almost gourmet kitchen.

                        Upon arriving, our waitress gave us great service. As the night went on, she completely disappeared. We began talking to a couple, directing next to us, who happened to be also from Florida. They also experienced the lack of service from the same waitress. I had the seafood spaghetti which tasted fine. Around 2 am, I awoke and was very sick which no doubt was food poisining from the seafood.

                        We were seated right away at a nice outdoor table with views of the Palazzo. Beautiful! Our waiter was inattentive and curt. No personality for the most part. The house wine was good as was the food. We had the fried seafood and veg and the Bisteca Florintina. We waited over an hour for the steak to arrive, while the couple who sat down next to us 40 minutes into our meal received the same steak in 5 minutes. No excuses or apologies for the mix up from Mr. No Personality other than it'll be here in a few minutes. This would be a totally different review if the service was as good as the food.

                        Dear sir/madame. After reading this review I can strongly afirm that you've eaten in a different restaurant and not our. We dont serve Bisteca Fiorentina and nothing similar to it. We don't serve fried seafood. We kindly ask you to remove this review. Best regards.

                        We’re pleasantly surprised when first visited in Oct 2024 in terms of service, value and quality. That explained why we’re visiting again with our friends in May 2025. Food is still good but service quality has declined. Never did acknowledge my request ( window table in the second dining room). All I got is a NO. No request? No room? No? I thought the area was closed as I could see my October table is open. However other customers kept going to the second dining area after we’re sited. I guess service is just order taking and food serving. . It’s getting more touristy overall. Not sure we would return again.

                        Made reservations here for Easter lunch and it was the best, most authentic food that we had in Venice during our 3 day stay. Every dish served was amazing!

                        La comida muy rica. Lo único que la cena que pedí era una porción reducida, como si fuera para un niño; en cambio a mi esposo le tocó una buena porción de lo que pidió. La atención del camarero excelente!

                        Our meal at Hostaria Osottoosopra was unanimously the favorite of our 8 days travel in Italy- between Venice, Florence, Maranello, Chianti, and Rome. We shared the calamari con crema, scallop & shrimp ravioli, beef cheek, duck ragu, cheesecake, and passion fruit mousse. There was a lovely wine selection that did not disappoint. We finished with coffee and lemoncello. Every dish was perfectly prepared, but it was the flavor and the way each ate that made the meal pretty unforgettable. This was our first formal meal during our travel, so every meal afterwards was compared, and this one easily stood out amongst some other very good ones. I’d add that among my favorite U.S. restaurants living in NYC, DC, and Philadelphia, I won’t forget Hostaria Osottoosopra either. Separately from the food, we were exhausted from a delayed flight and jolted by water taxi travel; the restaurant welcomed us warmly, even despite our inability to communicate in Italian fluently. They cared graciously for my toddler who fell asleep on my lap, I was humbled and so appreciative. Reflecting, it’s remarkable just how amazing this dining experience was.
