Nestled in one of the Victorian tonwhouses of Taj 51 Buckingham Gate Suites and Residences, Kona is a haven from the hustle and bustle of rainy London, a place to indulge in a sophisticated dining experience in a luxurious yet laid-back ambience.
The restaurant offers luxurious breakfasts for residents and it is most famous for its creative take on afternoon teas, including Indian Jasmine Afternoon Tea and Alice in Wonderland (included in the Telegraph's list of best afternoon teas).
Kona is also available for exclusive private hire in the evenings such as luxury corporate dinners (25 guests) and receptions (50 guests).
The contemporary design comprises an elegant dining room with luxurious furnishings and a homely, rather exotic feel. Magically lit, a separate library room with a fireplace, plump sofas and armchairs is the perfect place to relax with a peg or two of brandy after dinner.

The staff is so kind and the atmosphere is perfectly good. we are in five and did really enjoyed our time there. The tea and food are delicious. Mr. Amit is so kind and friendly.

Mad hatter tea was great. Amount of food served exceeded our expectations. The desserts were beautiful and delicious.

My wife and I had dinner at Kona prior to going to Victoria theatre. The food was delicious and was presented very artistically. The staff were very pleasant and seemed excited to be there. They gave great wine recommendations as well. Overall a wonderful start to the evening.

The restuarant is almost hidden away but well worth searching out. Its in a great setting of architectural beauty. The ambiance inside is subdued lighting and comfort with a relaxed but attentive staff providing excellent service and various recommendations. The wine can be pricey but all sections have options that would suit all pockets. The food was very good and tasty although my scallops were a little bland. All food was cooked to my taste and as requested. More vegetarian options would have been preferred however there were some on the menu. The staff were very good and all requests were carried out well and promptly. Changes to the printed menu were considered and could have been handled.

This is a very good restaurant. My wife had the lobster, served simply with olive oil. It tasted exquisite and did not need any additional sauces. Her starter of scallops was also good. I had the beetroot cured salmon, followed by the venison, both of which dishes had good original tastes. Our first choice of wine, the Fleurie, was disappointing but on a complaint being made, was replaced without charge by a much better wine. I would recommend this restaurant highly.

Ate last Saturday night at Kona whilst staying at Taj. Booked separately from my hotel stay but was advised by the hotel to add it to my overall hotel stay which we did. This gave us a huge 20% saving on the already very reasonable costs for an outstanding meal. Starter of Steak Tartare - Excellent Main was American Rib with jeu - Excellent Dessert was Pannacotta with Winter fruit - Excellent Never had a finer 3 courses in my life. Didn't try the wine as a little ropey from Fridays excess in London but now wish I had done. The only downside was the atmosphere which was unfortunately none existent. 6 people in with possibly 60 covers (not sure about that, guess only). Was not atmospheric but that wasn't down to the restaurant I don't feel. This is a restaurant that deserves more custom based upon the quality of the food and service. If you stay anywhere local take advantage and try it. If you stay at the St James Court or Taj 51 likewise, with added bonus of paying next to nothing for genuinely excellent food.

I chose this restaurant for my daughter's birthday and also never tried a 7 course tasting menus before, and was tempted by the 50% off offer. When we got there, we were impressed with the surrounding and decor, thinking quite a posh restaurant but the service was not there to match. The food was okay but not as well as we expected it to be. We got there at 7pm and we were still eating by 10pm because it took too longer gap between each course, in the end we had to ask them to serve up quickly due to trains we had to catch. So we left in a rush. It did not leave us a memorable evening. A little disappointed in fact.
