   The worst dining experience I’ve ever had. I’ve eaten there before and everything was fine, but now under new management it was a disaster. In the past there was a vegan menu that no longer existed. When asked the waiter said that they would be able to accommodate vegan dishes. We were seated promptly and our order was taken. We ordered a bottle of wine that came shortly after we received our water, unfortunately we waited 45 minutes before the bread arrived. We had to ask the waiter and then the manager for our bread. The manager seemed to have blamed the oven for our bread dilemma. After a while the salad was served. The Mediterranean salad was fine, the only decent thing that we ordered, unfortunately the waiter never brought the olive oil that I requested more than once. The Caesar salad was tasteless. The eggplant parmigiana was terrible but the fettuccine porcini was worse, tasted like it was cooked in dishwater, perhaps it was. The black pepper was what made it almost palatable. We waited over an hour after the salad was served before the other dishes arrived. The manager blamed this problem on the computer. At this point I’ve had it and just wanted out, but not before I expressed my feelings, letting the manager, staff, and anyone else in the restaurant know just what I thought and what a disappointment this restaurant has become. The manager realized how bad our experience was, so we weren’t charged for our misfortune.

   Evening started out normally enough . Appetizers were good—service was pleasant until we began to ask where our pasta entrees were one full hour after finishing our first course. We had not seen the pleasant waiter in all that time. He told us the manager would have to answer that question, The manager could not sufficiently answer the question and didn’t seem to think it was a problem that we had waited one hour for pasta dishes, which I’m guessing take 8-10 minutes max to prepare? Pleasant waiter returns to tell us 7 minutes more until the pasta comes out with no explanation let alone an apology. Stood up to talk to manager who was directly behind me at bar. He turns out to be a Frustrated man who appears desperate to make us go away by telling us we can leave and the appetizers and drink are on the house. Though owning up to the mistake and an apology would have been courteous and professional and would have had us stay, neither was offered and we exited the restaurant.

   La Mod was always billed as “contemporary Italian”. That means, not Italian-American. In its new iteration, the food has moved yet another step away from pasta with red sauce. More veg, lean unsauced meat and fish—those were our choices, but you will probably recognize many favorites on the menu. Very hospitable, seating in or out in the covered passage. Feb 2020 still in shakedown mode, but worth it.

   Very happy to see Moderna re-open in Sunset Harbor. Very nice authentic Italian restaurant!

   They took away every vegan option, but online it shows they have them. This is why we went. Every restaurant around was busy, they were not. Server almost pushed us out the door as if she was as saving us from dining there.

   An authentic Italian restaurant. They have numerous types of fresh gluten free pasta. We had the bolognese with GF spaghetti and fettuccine porcini with GF fettuccine and they were excellent. The panna cotta was great, highly recommend.

    Had a really nice experience at La Mod. We went for Miami Spice but I ended up just getting some pasta that was really good. My husband got the Vegan Lollies and Broccoli and I had a bite. This was a great tasty dish. Also the calamari he got was light and good as well. Good experience overall. Would go back if we loved in the area.
