I had been looking forward to dining at Leila in San Diego for months. I made a reservation well in advance, and we arrived even before the restaurant opened—we were among the first guests to be seated. To our surprise, we were taken to a massive table meant for 10–12 people, which felt awkward as there were only four of us. We even asked if we were in the right spot. Shortly after, they moved us to a different table, in a back room completely separate from the main dining area—a plain space with no theme at all. When we politely asked why we couldn’t sit in the main hall (the whole reason we chose Leila was because of its beautiful and unique theme), the host Stefania responded rudely and dismissively, saying something along the lines of “this is the table I have for you.” When we explained this wasn’t what we were expecting, she made it clear that we either accepted that table or left the restaurant. That completely ruined our experience. To be fair, the food was delicious, and our server Alexis was absolutely amazing—kind, attentive, and knowledgeable, recommending dishes based on our preferences and making the dinner itself enjoyable. But despite the great food and outstanding service, the way we were treated by the host made us feel disrespected and unwelcome. We didn’t get the experience Leila is known for, and that was extremely frustrating. To make things worse, Stefania told us that next time we should specify where we want to sit when making the reservation. Seriously? If I make a reservation months in advance, shouldn’t it be assumed that I’d like to enjoy the main dining room—the themed experience that Leila promotes? That’s like saying I should ask for clean utensils unless I specify otherwise. It just doesn’t make sense.

Overall, the food was good, the service was great, and the ambiance was excellent. This is definitely a great spot for a date thanks to the atmosphere. We ordered family style, and the portions were generous. That said, while everything was solid, nothing about the food really stood out, it was pretty average. The cocktails we had were also around average with flavor profiles similar to traditional bar drinks.

The food at Lelia is absolutely delicious! They have great platter options to share and the drinks are fabulous as well! The vibes are truly amazing and the service was impeccable, shout out Mia, she is such a queen and a fantastic waitress :)

My experience was the best. The ambiance is amazing, the food was fresh. The tea served is delicious. Our server Mia was very attentive. Can't wait to go back.
