Excellent restaurant. With the new streetscape in greektown, it felt like eating at a European restaurant. The outside seating was really nice. Even if we had to eat inside it’s a nice looking restaurant

Our experience at MATI tonight was completely unacceptable. We arrived on time for our 8:30 p.m. reservation, yet we sat for 35 minutes before our server even took our order. She blamed the delay on the kitchen being “backed up,” but the restaurant appeared to have a normal Saturday-night crowd—not an unusually overwhelming rush. As someone who regularly dines throughout Detroit, I understand that busy restaurants sometimes require patience. However, a backed-up kitchen does not explain why a server cannot take an order, communicate clearly, or provide attentive service. If MATI cannot properly accommodate its reservations, it should not accept them. A reservation is supposed to prevent guests from being seated and then forgotten. Waiting 35 minutes just to place an order is disrespectful of customers’ time and falls far below the level of service expected from a restaurant presenting itself as an upscale dining experience. This was a deepdly disappointing experience, and based on tonight’s service, I cannot recommend MATI.

Our first time there was great but it was a Monday so it was slow so we decided to come back on a Saturday for our anniversary and we never got served not even appetizer so after and hour and a half of waiting and inquiring about our food the owner was spoken to by the hostess and just turned around and didn’t even attend to us so we got up and left they didn’t even offer to pay for our drinks they made us pay very bad service

The food was fine for the most part. Some really good and some just ok, particularly the entrees which were cold or had been sitting under a heat lamp and were minimally warm. My husband's chicken dinner, however was so cold it had congealed and looked horrible. The waiter even agreed yet we still had to ask for it tobe taken back. We had waited almost an hour for our food at that point and just asked to have it taken of the bill. It was obvious the kitchen was unable to manage preparation in acoordinated fashion. But even more than the disappointing food quality, it was the service and total lack of concern on theparty of management. Our drink orders were consisting forgotten when they did come, they were always served to the wrong person. The waiter didn't check back and let us know why ourgood was taking so long and the first teo times we asked, he forgot to go check. We were told my husband's entree that was sent back wouldbe removed from the bill. It wasn't. Another in our party asked for apart of the meal to be served on adifferent plate than the rest. Not only was out not served that way n it wasn't served at all. The waiter lost one of our credit cards and we had to go find it, which we did, on the floor! When we asked to speak to a manager and someone finally came, we were told the kitchen was slammed, Sorry. That was it. And did I say that a 20% gratuity was automatically added to the bill and with all the issues we had, it wasn't removed. Read all the heat reviews online and was really excited to try Mati. Unfortunately it was a very disappointing experience.

Appetizers made us excited for the entrees. We had 5 different entrees from pasta to lamb to ground beef to whole fish and they were all perfect! Dessert was also outstanding! The waiter was perfect - there at just the right times, kept water refilled, but was not hovering. Truly one of the best restaurant experiences ever. Highly recommend!
