This is where it all started – on the banks of the Rappahannock River overlooking where we grow our oysters. We like to call Merroir a “tasting room,” just so people know to expect something different. Everything is either served raw or cooked on an outdoor grill, small-plate-style, and beautifully paired with craft brews and world-famous wines. Each menu item is singularly-focused, seasonal, and ever-changing, so there’s always a surprise in store.

Great setting. Mediocre food. At these prices, beer in cans is unacceptable. Live close by. Was rooting for this to be better so not sure we're coming back.

My wife and I are big foodies. We’ve been going to Merroir since they opened and watched them expand over the years. The food is amazing. This past visit we had the Scallops w/corn and the smash burger. Both were extremely delicious. We always walk away impressed.

We have been dining at Merroir since they opened over 12 years ago and live in the area. We often bring out of town guests there by boat when we are out on the water. The food is consistently good and the wait staff (especially Mles) is exceptional. We visited on Sunday afternoon of Memorial Day weekend around 3 pm and had a negative experience with the hostess. She seemed annoyed that we had failed to make reservations- we had decided to take our chances since it was an off time of the day. She put us on the waitlist and we were fine with waiting since they were obviously full and this is one of their busiest weekends. I made a reservation in the app for 4:15 in case we had not been seated by then and we proceeded to enjoy the grounds. We ran into several friends with the same number of people in their party (4) who arrived without reservations and were seated before us as were several other groups. There were many tables available by this time and they clearly were not calling the waitlist and just seating others as they arrived. At 4:05 we joined the line again and they asked if anyone had reservations so we said that we did plus we had been on the waitlist for over 40 minutes. The hostess was snarky about it and seated us with an attitude after being called out for obviously forgetting us. An apology would have been appreciated. Although we understand that everyone has a bad day/ makes mistakes/ gets overwhelmed this person was actively unpleasant. Management may want to consider a more efficient/ equitable/ consistent system for seating and that that the person who is the first point of contact for a business should be able to at least feign hospitality to guests.

A beloved local gem. One of our favorite places for always fresh seafood, small plates, and gorgeous views. And friendly service.

It was wonderful. Only reason fiid & price didn’t get excellent has nothing to do with Merrior. The cost of Oysters & seafood in general has gone up so much & the size of Oyster’s smaller. Just too bad but the food was good & we expected the high price.

we love the views of the rappahannock, also the beautiful plants and the delicious smell of the confederate jasmin. the portions are small and tasty. definitely a must destination. we have been going from the start and over the years the ambience has been getting lovelier.
