   I’ve been coming to this location since they opened in Del Mar and it has become one of my go to neighborhood restaurants. One of my favorite salads is the Thai chicken salad.  I was always able to order the peanut dressing on the side, that was until last night. Our server communicated that was no longer possible. I was confused since my dinner companion ordered the bistro salad with dressing on the side and that was no issue. The server then brought the manager  to our table who told us that corporate felt that dressing on the side on the Thai salad, “ compromised the presentation”. I couldn’t help but laugh since we are talking about a salad with some Thai noodles and shredded chicken and peanuts! I don’t quite understand how pre-tossing the dressing in the salad makes the “presentation” that much more artistic from a culinary perspective. I then inquired if I could get any of the other salads on the menu with dressing on the side and apparently that was no problem.  Our server and the manager are not to blame,  they are merely the messengers for corporate. As a frequent customer of Nick’s,  I would appreciate a response from someone at corporate for this ludicrous new rule concerning peanut dressing on the side and how pleasing a customer’s simple request is no longer a priorty.

   We have dined here a few times before this trip. Our previous dining experience was disappointing. Our waitress seemed not too interested in serving us, she made us feel like we didn’t belong there. Not only did I observe that but my husband and daughter did as well. Needless to say our dining experience was not only uncomfortable but disappointing. But today’s dining experience made up for that awful experience. This trip was the best! Our waiter Mark was outstanding! His attention, warm personality and service was amazing. Thank you Mark and God Bless you

   Disappointing! We have been to Nicks at least 10 times. Usually it is very good. Tonight it was not what we expected. We had a reservation but unfortunately we had a table outside. It was cold, the heaters did not work and the wind flowed through their shields. The meal was very good, but it was very uncomfortable sitting in our location. I mentioned it to the manager and he just heard the issue but did not even offer to comp any of our meal. Maybe next time Nick’s will meet their usual standard.

   Enjoyed an early lunch at Nicks before it got crowded. We had cheerful and attentive service from Caroline who made us smile! Food was yummy and we had a nice time.

   Everything was great - service, food, and cocktails! Highly recommend the Bistro Plate and the Cucumber Collins!!
