Fantastic new restaurant! Beautiful room, great menu and food. Rooftop dining as well. Can’t wait to return
The wait staff was nice, but not very on the ball. We got the Omakase tasting which was a mistake in hindsight. For that kind of money you expect a bit of a special experience and there was not much special about it. Couple of the dishes were pretty good for sure, but overall not very impressive for $120 a person. The service around the omakase was not good. The staff does not know anything about the food. If you asked them any detailed questions they would answer incorrectly or say "I think"
Would not recommend this place.
I know it’s been open for 6 weeks but I was honestly super disappointed by the service and food. It was really expensive for the roles and the service was not great.
Got a happy hour rink upstairs before dinner at the sushi bar. The cocktails and omakase were both amazing, just be prepared to pay amazing food prices. Chefs were very talented and mesmerizing to watch. Cocktails were well balanced and flavorful, and service was impeccable. Our waitress was extremely kind, attentive, and helpful with the wine selection. It's a once-a-year place for people like us, but we look forward to celebrating a birthday or anniversary there next year!
My wife and I went for the first time and we loved it! I'm in a cooking club and I plan on bringing the club here for one of our next events.
Our waiter was so attentive and offered up some awesome recommendations. Much better than Nobu. Definitely coming back!
Delicious food--especially from the grill, and the sashimi. Excellent cocktail and a beautiful bottle of sake--one of the best I've ever had. Fantastic service--our waiter worked hard to make sure we made it out the door in time to get to the theater before curtain!
It was incredible. Been to a few of the top rated sushi restaurants in DC but this was better than any of them. Amazing
It was a great place with good service and delicious food. The fish was very fresh and the staff very accomodating.
Fabulous space, fabulous food and super cool vibe. Can’t sing its praises enough - will definitely be back.
Double date with friends that we won’t forget! Wonderful food and service, will definitely recommend to friends and be back soon!
Fantastic sushi!!!! Definitely want to go back!!! The service was amazing and so was the atmosphere! They pay attention to the details!
The bartenders were highly skilled and friendly, especially Giancarlo. It definitely made you want to stay at the bar. Our waitress, Jen, was fun and knowledgeable, as was the entire wait staff.
The food was exceptional. You know you’re in for a treat when the entire table is exclaiming about how good the cucumber salad is...every item in the Omakase was delicious and the sake pairing was perfect.
Both times I have been to O-ku I have been very pleased, but they have kicked it up a notch since they opened (I went opening night).
Run don’t walk to snag a table at this legit sushi joint in the Union Market neighborhood. So cool. Sushi was amazing. Well done Chef and all to create this very cool sophisticated ambience. Reminds me of Manhattan. You walk thru the large wooden door and are transported to a completely different and cool place. Loved it!!! Just what the DC dining scene needs.
It was amazing! We went for my friends birthday and they showed the best hospitality.
My hunny and I came here for a simple date night and we loved it! I never thought I would rave about a restaurant’s edamame, but I loved it!!! My fiancé is a sushi connoisseur and he said this place just became his favorite sushi spot. I had the soft shell crab roll, which was amazing. My hunny had the California King roll and the scallop. Both of us had happy tastebuds.
My only complaint was that I didn’t really like my drink. I cannot recall the name of it. But it made me feel like it should be Christmas.... had more of a winter taste than a summer drink. Also, this place is a little on the pricier end so this won’t be a daily/weekly spot. But we will definitely be back!
Very good food. Excellent service. Not particularly crowded. Intimate. Expensive.
Food was excellent, but the service needs a lot of work!
The food was mediocre and in some instances bad. The Omakase was overpriced for what it was -- the difference between the small set $80 and the large set $120 were two courses: a small bowl of flavorless soup and a small bowl of cumbers in sesame oil. The service was great and the restaurant was pretty but the food was middling to poor.
The big plates are not big. Watch your money, food is expensive
Restaurant just opened, working out service flows. My service was very slow. Food took a while to come out in addition to drinks. Rarely did anyone check on us until the very end of the meal.
Hostess sat us next to the bathroom when other open tables were available.
It will be a great spot once they tweak service standards.
Totally lived up to the hype! Our first visit was with friends from out of town and we were not disappointed. It was a little difficult to figure out portion size and how much to order but in the end we tried lots of different items. Honestly, the rolls were probably the least impressive and the short rib and bulgogi were really stellar. A definite gem in this neighborhood, and try to check out the rooftop in nice weather
Nice atmosphere, attentive and knowledgeable staff, wonderful presentation of food that tasted great! The drinks were also creative and delicious. Would go back again for a special occasion.
The food was extremely expensive for the quality. Better value at proven restaurants like Sushi Taro. Of 7 courses of omakase, 5 were not sushi. One of the courses was the smoky clear broth, which they called a palate cleanser. In that case, it would not be considered a course, and frankly, I can't believe I paid for that. Great ambiance though. I'm more likely to return for happy hour instead.
An absolutely sublime experience. Haven't been in food heaven for quite some time. The food, the freshness, the service, the experience are absolute perfection.
Sushi shared plates were absolutely delicious, great service, really cool ambiance both downstairs and upstairs (lounge/rooftop bar), can’t wait to go back!
Great place in NE DC! The food was really good- great for sharing and the service was 100% top notch! They have a wide variety of interesting cocktails, sake and even have some fun mocktails! I would definitely come here again!
Our servers could not have been more gracious, but our courses came out out haphazardly. Admittedly, the kitchen had been slammed, but two of our courses had been forgotten totally. The manager was most gracious in comping these courses and was also most accommodating when we asked for the music to be turned down. The food, though, was exquisitely prepared. The sea urchin was awesome. But I am tired of going to restaurants that want to be nightclubs, rather than places where one might savor both dinner and conversation..
We dined on Friday and had the best experience. Great service and cocktails -but the food was the star. I’m a less adventurous fish taster, so went with the Waygu croquettes and bulgogi. Both were amazing. The views from the roof of Union Market were also a treat. Will be back soon.
Second time back, brought some company this time -- really wonderful place with warm and inviting service and artfully prepared sushi.
Cocktails are top notch, their bar manager did a fantastic job curating the list and it shows.
It was a unique experience and yet not foreign or strange.
Service was excellent and loved the ponzu sauce with the sea bass...& waygu croquettes
They’re definitely still working out their kinks. 7 course omakase only had 2 sushi courses which was disappointing. But not as disappointing or ridiculous as one of the courses being a simple broth.
Brand new restaurant labeled as one of the most anticipated in DC and it lives up to the hype. We selected the $80 omakase which, since they are new, was designed to be closer to a tasting menu than traditional omakase. It was outstanding. The service was a little rushed for the first few courses, but then settled into a nice rhythm. The sake pairings (additional cost) were a perfect balance to the course served with it. Everything was great, but our favorites were the rock shrimp makimono and Tasmanian king salmon sashimi.
The rooftop is a must. Great service for a place that had only been open for less than a week. Will definitely be back.
It was opening night, the food and staff were amazing. They ran out of a few items (it was late—after 9:30), but they surprised us with few items. Looking forward to checking out the roof top patio!
