   Neighborhood gem that has some really good happy hour and Sunday night dinner specials that are well worth it. Great for pre- or post-game Padres, as well as local theaters

   The service was awful, every table around us received better service. We not only had one, but two subpar servers that double took our orders and made it obvious that there was a severe lack of communication. There was a delay getting menus, then getting drinks, and then getting the check. We thought it was just because they were busy but both servers made it very clear they were ignoring our table. We enjoyed our own company and liked the food; however, the customer service is definitely lacking.

   We stayed at the charming Palihotel next door and had such an amazing dinner at the Saint James French Diner that we decided to go back the next day for brunch. Once again, we left super happy. My friend ordered the FRENCH TOAST, and I ordered something I had never had before CROQUE MADAME (WOW!!). Again, the waitstaff were very friendly and helpful, and kept our mimosas full. It was a very enjoyable brunch, and we'll be back.

   The St. James French Diner is a cute little Parisian space. I was intrigued by the reviews of the onion soup and the burger Parisienne. So we split the onion soup and got the burgers. Both are excellent. The soup flavor is incredibly complex, and the puff pastry on top is genius. The burgers are served on a bed of rich bordelaise, so with the double burger, the cheese, caramelized onions, it was the most decadent mix of flavors. Fries were hot, crisp, and salty, perfect, but we had an issue getting some catsup, maybe not French, but disappointing. Our server was friendly, but disorganized. The other server noticed our looking around for someone and rescued us. It was a busy service, and we may have messed up her plan by arriving 15 minutes early, however, we had a reservation and the room was half empty at the time we arrived. Anyway, I recommend. Reasonable price, pretty space, generous starched napkins made the room classy.

   This was our first time at this restaurant, and it did not disappoint. We started with the CROQUETTES and OYSTERS. Both were very delicious. My friend ordered the SQUASH RISOTTO for her main entrée, and I ordered the MOULES FRITES. Again, both were scrumptious! The wait staff are very friendly and helpful as well. We will return!

   Great atmosphere, the burgers delicious, and their Bib salad perfect for two. Their cocktails are delicious and handcrafted, and you must order their chocolate soufflé, light and airy and properly made.
