Sam's Chowder House
The food was excellent. Well prepared and fresh.
Making a reservation made all the difference. We bipassed 30 people in line. Sams had a great corner Bay view table waiting. The food was fabulous. Although, there was a wait to get drinks because the bar was so backed up. Once the drinks arrived they were good. You can spend many hours there.
The view and setting was beautiful. Casual but warm and inviting. We enjoyed all our dishes...especially the Lobster Roll and crab cake. The clam chowder was also really good...slightly lighter then most white clam chowders we get. We are Looking forward to our next visit there.
After we were seated, our group of 3 had an issue with a loud group, 8, seated adjacent to us. We requested to be moved to a different location and Ian accommodated our request. Very professional.
The service was absolutely wonderful!
Pricey but food is very good. Better value elsewhere.
Favorite spot in the Bay Area.
Great food, responsive staff, wonderful views. Who could want anything more?
I wish you could make reservations for the outside patio
We love the ambiance and setting. However, the food choices are not great, the fresh fish plates are not well cooked and not too tasty. Yes, the clam chowder is good and the ice cream sundae was delicious but the other dishes aren't great. The greeting staff don't communicate well causing mistakes to happen. We had previously booked indoors but, when we arrived decided outdoors instead. However, when the buzzer went off the hostess started to take us to an inside seat than complained there were no notes in the system to change the table to outside (the girl we had spoken to was standing right beside her). On the plus side our waitress was great.
We have been coming here for many years and often bring out of town friends ,we have always enjoyed good food and service.
However, last Sunday,we had to wait excessively long for a table we had requested on our reservation and then our waitress was quite unpleasant. For example, she did not answer my friend"s question about 2 items, rather suggested the more expensive specials.
We will be taking a short break.
Great place for quality seafood. We moved back to the area after being away for 3 years and were super surprised at how much the food quality and presentation improved over that time.
It was a beautiful view but my friend and I got very sick after eating the lobster. It wasn’t hot when it got to our table and it’s definitely not worth $55 to get sick over for a small lobster. The location is perfect but I will never be returning.
Everyone we encountered was so pleasant! We were running late due to traffic, called and was told not to worry. When we arrived we were taken to our table by a bubbly young woman who recommended the chili garlic prawns (which we ended up ordering)and she was right on when she said they were delicious!! Our waiter was superb!! Excellent recommendations and very attentive to our needs. He was always at our table at the right time. The entrees were excellent! It was first time I have ever had a seafood risotto dish that had more seafood than risotto! Yum! And my husband’s bacon wrapped crab stuffed prawns were wonderful!! Dessert was a pumpkin bread pudding that was on the house as we were celebrating our anniversary. Such a surprise! Will definitely be returning to Sam’s! Thank you for a memorable evening!
You can’t beat the views at Sam’s. Whether you eat inside or outside the ocean is right there! Don’t pass up on the Manhattan chowder. Think seafood!! It’s fresh and seasonal ! Good wines by the glass too
I'm a little unclear on whether a free dessert is offered o one's birthday. I would never have known that I was supposed to receive a free birthday dessert if the guy at the next table over celebrating hisbirthday told me. Our waitress never mentioned it so I asked her about it and brought the dessert menu and told to pick ut any dessert for free.
Loved the crab and shrimp Louis salad and lobster rolls. Delicious! Beautiful view. We will return.
Food took a long time to arrive and when it did most of it was cold. Portion of fish and chips was small and a little soggy. Cole slaw was runny. Other members of our lunch party had similar issues. Overall, not a great day for the restaurant.
Perfect anniversary setting.... they threw in a free dessert for the occasion! Great food and vibe!
It was our wedding anniversary weekend. Made reservations (which makes a huge difference as this place is cracking) and we were seated right away in the perfect window seat for two overlooking the water and treated to a dessert at the end of our meal. Food was excellent and everything we hoped for...
Great food and service. We had a nice view of the ocean.
My husband loves your cioppino! Chowder is delicious!
Took the halibut on a bed of lentils, spinach and mushrooms. Outstanding!
Friendly personnel and beautiful location.
Beautiful setting on the patio facing the ocean, with birds chirping. The food was excellent and the service excellent as well. They are very organized and used to the crowds that show up. I was very impressed.
Love the view
Sam's always delivers! I love the dressed lobster roll and the crab cakes are insane!!
Overall we really enjoyed the meal. I'll certainly return but will stick to what they do best, which is the raw bar (overpriced, but excellent quality), chowder, lobster rolls, and fried anything. Fresh petrale, and this was local, needs only an egg wash, quick pan fry and some butter and lemon. Serving it over a corn and cream base was at best weird, and since it was lukewarm, basically bad. I don't really know what the chef was going for, but he/she missed it. That said, the lobster rolls and fish and chips were so good, the petrale experiment didn't have a lasting affect.
Always great seafood and friendly service. I particularly appreciate the live music.
Beautiful lunch outside - ahi bit salty but blue crab sandwich amazing as well as view! Will come back for sure!
The food was very good as usual. I ordered a half dozen Kumamoto oysters on the half-shell which were fresh and tasty. I ordered the Testarossa Chardonnay to have with them. The order was never placed by our server, Kaylin. I had the steamed clams. It was presented without the bowl for shells, the clam fork or a spoon to sip the broth. I had to ask for them. I ordered the soft-serve ice cream for dessert. The order was never placed. My companions had no issues with their order. I consider one omission a slip. However, I take two omissions personally. I gave her a good tip, but the more I thought about it, the angrier I got. A happy get together was ruined by the very poor service which I received. Very disappointing.
Cioppino broth needs to develop fuller body flavor
Paella lacked flavor - bland
Key lime pie needs to be more tart
Great food! Will be back!
This is a beach side restaurant with a welcoming attitude, a long bar, friendly staff members, and even a gift shop. It's a wonderful memorable place. The food is good.
We came here for the dollar oysters, and ate them on the adirondack chairs overlooking the beach and the sunset. Then we headed in for dinner. Our server Jesus was so friendly and explained the specials to us so well that we just had to have them. The drinks are also pretty strong; worth the money.
Excellent venue for the ocean view. Good seafood.
Great food, would love to go back. Perfect start to a trip down the coast to LA.
First visit and came early to get parking place. Wish they offered senior specials.
However, food, service, atmosphere and ocean views. Next time will try patio - looked fun!
Was wonderful all around
Wonderful. But women’s bathroom need more cleaning.
Walked in and got on list. Buzzed about 45 minutes later.
Waiter who served us was very attentive, excellent customer
service. I ordered a lobster roll naked and my wife ordered
the Shrimp Scampi. Kids had a burger and a mac n cheese.
Total for dinner was $115 plus $15 tip. Kinda pricey for a regular
dinner. Nothing out of the ordinary although food was very good.
