Climb the stairs to the secluded second floor of Primland’s former horse stables and discover traditional Southern food and music at its very best. Available year-round for private parties and events, the rustic Stables Saloon regularly hosts live bluegrass music concerts and is part of the Crooked Road: Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail. On Friday and Saturday evenings, as the strains of a lively banjo drift towards the sunset, feast on barbecued beef brisket, buttermilk fried chicken, smoked pork shoulder, roasted corn and more. The laid back vibe will have you never wanting to leave.

We had wanted to dine here for years and finally had the opportunity due to a weekend stay in the area. The entire experience, beginning with the drive through the property from the South entrance, was very pleasant! Upon arrival we were greeted personally by the restaurant manager and were seated immediately. Our server Molly was pleasant, personable, and very attentive. There was live music that was good quality and just the right volume for both enjoyment and dinner conversation. The meal was excellent, beginning with a beautiful salad, followed by a HUGE serving board filled with home-style preparations of four proteins (the fried chicken was yummy!) and an array of tasty side dishes. There was hardly room for dessert, but they brought them anyway. We took home enough leftovers for a full meal the following day. This was a memorable dining experience all around! We'll definitely be back!

The wait staff at the Stables Saloon absolutely made our visit. They went above and beyond to ensure that we were able to enjoy our dinner. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to enjoy some southern cooking, some great music, and the most accommodating, kind staff!!

Good idea to create variety for the resort area. Unfortunately, somewhat misses the mark. Interior is bland, most of the food was very salty, some of the dishes arrived lukewarm. Family-style platter presentation while a cute idea was cumbersome, with small portions. Service and drinks were great! However, for the price, overall it was a miss.

I would only add signage to the building itself. The road is marked but the restaurant has no visible signs so we drove around wondering if it was someone’s large mountain home or not. No lights and no signs.

We enjoyed our dinner and the bluegrass music was fun. The service was great and everyone was so friendly. We will definitely come back. We even saw a bear outside the restaurant. :)
