The food is good, but I was very, very disappointed with the service. We brought a cake for our friend’s birthday. The staff told us it was a $1.50 cake cutting fee per person, which we thought was a little silly, but we were fine with it. When the time came, the staff came over and asked the entire table whose birthday it was rather than being discreet. It was so odd. Then they cut the entire cake and put a candle in a slice, rather than bringing out the cake, which had something written on it to the birthday girl so she didn’t even get to see it. I cannot believe that they would charge a fee for that kind of service! They should be embarrassed. I will not be going back.
This is our 3rd visit and we are really loving The Bristol. Nice ambiance. Salad with endive and peaches is great, but the sturgeon entrée was to die for good. I hope it stays on the menu for a while. Seems to be a well managed place.
We (3 long time girlfriends) were there celebrating all of our birthdays and the manger Charles made sure it was special! Our reservation was during the last 15 minutes of happy hour and we were able to take advantage of it! I would have paid the regular price it was so good!! The drinks, I had the “that’s my jam” was outstanding and refreshing! We had all four happy hour appetizers and one was better than the next! Still thinking of the duck fat fries - they are a must! The entrees were delicious and we shared them all!! It was like having a tasting menu of wonderful food!! Cacio e Pepe was fantastic, as was the Amish chicken and the fennel-garlic sausage! I can’t say enough about Charles making sure everything was perfect for us!!!! Can’t wait to go back!!!
The Bristol went above and beyond to make our experience special and surprised us with champagne for our anniversary!
One of the best brunches around. Really enjoying the menu and kids breakfast.
Fantastic experience here. Ambiance was terrific, food and cocktails were exceptional and service was over-the-top great. We will come back here every time we visit Chicago.
We had an 8pm reservation for 4 people and weren't seated until about 9:15pm. As frustrating as this can be, the entire staff was extremely apologetic and we ended up getting a couple rounds of drinks, appetizers, and even giftcards on the house. Unfortunately, one of the entrees we were planning to order was sold out by the time we were seated. The pastas here are delicious but cooked very al dente, which isn't for everyone. While we appreciate the effort made to remedy the situation, I don't think I'd come back here except for when we redeem our giftcards.
AMAZING. Food was very good and the Happy Hour deals until 6:30 during the weekend are some of the best in the city
Overall experience was great. Service was quick in beginning but resumed to normal pace throughout the remainder of the meal. Would definitely return and recommend the Edive salad, monkey brad, and muscles.
The food was amazing
One of the best meals I've had in recent memory. Not only was the food extremely delicious, but the flavors were so varied and different than other restaurants in the city. Cannot recommend this place enough!!
Tremendous dinner! Well thought out and balanced dishes with excellent service! Will be back soon
Limited choice of entrees.
The starters were fantastic, and so was the pasta and corn risotto. Very friendly and helpful service. We’ll be back.
My husband and I are here to celebrate our anniversary. The ambiance is perfect for date night. It's dim but not dark. We started off with the monkey bread and then ordered another round of monkey bread with our dinner because it was so good. I ordered the corn cappelletti and it made me dance in my seat. I also ordered the "Not Carrie's Cosmo" and it was delightful. 10/10 would eat here again!
We had a lovely time, the staff was very accommodating and the food was absolutely delicious!
We came as a party of 7. Service was outstanding. Food was very tasty.
Best service we have had in Chicago in a very long time.
Crystal our server was fantastic. Best food we have had in years.
Everything was excellent! The only thing I would say the vegetables were a tad too salty, but overall very delicious.
My fiancé and I have driven past this very unassuming place many times and finally decided to give it a try. Our expectations were more than met with how bold yet comforting all of the food was. The staff there was very welcoming and attentive. Also, the happy hour they have every weekday is such a great deal it honestly doesn’t make much sense. This was a wonderful date spot, and also a great place for families. We will definitely be coming back.
Best restaurant in Chicago period!
Amazing wagyu and for dessert - basque cake —so delicious the flavors of a wonderful meal still linger on my tongue.
It was just okay. Not sure if I’ll go back. Poached egg on salad was over cooked and music was too loud.
The bar and wait staff were super friendly, patient with our lingering, and happily agreed to course out our dishes on a shared plate menu. I can’t stand when everything shows up at once and then gets cold. The monkey bread is usually a favorite but was a tad undercooked and difficult to pull apart. The dill butter was fantastic with it and different from whatever was served with it on my last visit a few years ago. The tomato salad was to die for. Risotto tasted pretty good but was somewhat soupy. The chicken dish wish used to be my favorite was dry and disappointing. It was relatively bland and could have been warmer. The celery might have been the best part of the dish. Spaetzel was mush from sitting in broth and had no flavor. Parsley on top was not cut at all and made for awkward bites or just generally avoiding it. Outside of he chicken an otherwise great experience.
It was very loud. We were sat at a table where one side backed to the bar. Someone had pulled a bar stool up and set it in the walkway to join some of their friends to talk and that caused everyone walking by to bump the back of our chairs. Very annoying. We asked the sever to ask the folks to move the bar stool, but either she didn’t ask, or they just wouldn’t move. Our server didn’t seem to care much either.
Probably won’t be back.
My group of five basically had the upstairs to ourselves. They turned the music down so we could talk, everything we ordered came fast, and the food and cocktails were all delicious.
The basque cake was stellar- both of our meals were fantastic
We shared a few dishes and loved the salmon appetizer, the BEST trout, and the corn pasta. The monkey bread was just ok.
The staff was friendly and helpful.
Fantastic food. Pasta is both classic, yet adds a tinge of intrigue. Starters provide fresh and seasonal entries. We will be back!
One note: we had pretty slow service on a Saturday night. Our waiter was jovial, but lacked the promptness and attentiveness I had previously here.
A lot of my friends love the Bristol and I've generally thought my meals there were ok/adequate. This brunch was an exception though, it was delicious. I had the smoked salmon board and it hit the spot, everything was perfect and seemed very high quality. My picky mom also liked her meal. My only regret is that we didn't get the basque cake!
Server was sub-par
Service at the bar started well enough.
Drinks were tasty.
Steak tartare was just ok, a little dry and loose, steak was a little too chewy and not much richness.
Duck fat fries used to be delicious but lately they taste like they were freezer burned or something and the texture is just soft, but very crispy outside. The flavor is still nice but they used to be so much better.
Pasta: the corn risotto was lovely. The cacio e pepe was wonderful.
Main: the porchetta was alright. It was heavily spiced like an autumn dish, despite this being the end of summer. It was quite dry, and the gravy didn’t do much to help. Also the mixture of greens on top was a weird choice.
Desserts: the peanut butter cookies were dried out and uninteresting, and the caramel sauce that came with them was just one dull note. The basque cake was interesting and very flavorful. The French press coffee was full of grounds and tasted like an ashtray, and they basically just left it to sit and brew until I pressed down the plunger on my own minutes later. Their scotch listing featured multiple items that weren’t even available.
The service degraded over the course of the night, and we were convinced the staff had all decided to get really high since the place was dead anyway. They all seemed happy enough but totally in their own world and uninterested in checking on us or even offering us the check for the better part of a half hour of us sitting and not touching any of the gross coffee or weak desserts. We eventually had to stack up our plates and then wait a solid 10 minutes before someone asked how we were... as if that wasn’t enough of a signal. Also they didn’t inquire about our enjoyment of anything after the main. Which is why I’m writing it all here instead of telling them; I wasn’t asked.
This place has seriously gone downhill from what used to be a very special experience.

Great neighborhood restaurant. Good service and really tasty food
Overall good but too many tables, way too noisy and the portion size was a little small. That would have been ok if you had a bigger desert menu.
Delicious pre-fixe dinner with wine. The meal was tasty and interesting, and the service was attentive. It was a great experience!
I love the Bristol! They had a rough day today with service. But it’s still the best and must go!
I will definitely return
Fabulous food!! Loved the informal atmosphere. But be prepared to have your dessert elsewhere. They do not have an inspiring desserts section.
