Standing proudly in the middle of the village of Great Massingham, surrounded by fields but only a short drive from the stunning North Norfolk coast, The Dabbling Duck is the picture of the best of British country pubs.

Step inside the pub to a welcoming atmosphere, with a proper bar where locals gather to drink local ales, eat from our menus with dishes ranging from good casual pub classics to sophisticated seasonal dishes showcasing the very best of local produce.

Kitchen open from 8 am to 10am for breakfast and then from noon to 9 pm Monday to Saturday and 8 pm Sunday.

Tables in the garden and barn are first come first served, serving pub classics and wood fired pizzas (Fridays and Saturdays). Dogs are welcome through out.

The dabbling duck was recommended to us and so we went in with good faith. Unfortunately our experience was not good at all. On arrival we were told the reservation time we gave was wrong, only to be told after checking that actually we were right. This meant that they were possibly not expecting us and we were placed in a darker room with a spotlight down on the table and sadly the room had an issue with flies. My 86 year old nan sat on a chair overlapping a fire door, which at the time we thought would be ok as only used in emergencies.. The menu was great, as was the waitress who explained the specials etc, I ordered a pub classic, the fish and chips, my partner and grandmother the scampi. Their food was absolutely fine, but my fish seemed not right. When I smelled it, it was as though it had been drenched in dirty water and was clearly off. I then noticed people at the other table not eating their fish either. I complained immediately and the waitress dealt with it straight away, but I was absolutely shocked it had made it out of the kitchen. It was after our meal and while we were talking, that all of a sudden one of the people working there, from the other side tried to open the fire door next to my grandmother knocking her chair, and then just kept pushing in the full knowledge she was there, forcing her, an 86 year old, to have to get up and get out of the way. It was so that the other waitresses, who to be fair looked equally shocked, could pass her some boxes, across our table. She could have very easily walked around to get them and not forced my grandmother up and out of her chair. We didnt have to pay for the fish and the other meals were fine, the waitresses were fantastic and very polite and sweet particularly with my grandmother, but we wont be visiting again as I can't trust the food or to be honest the service provided by the managers. And why were there so many flies?

First visit to the Dabbling duck, lovely atmosphere in a stunning location with rustic charm. The food was divine and the staff friendly and engaging despite how busy they were. Would highly recommend and will definitely be a returning costumer.

An excellent pub with lots of atmosphere, good food too! It did take a while to get a drink to start with because it was so busy. The restaurant staff were under pressure it overall a very good experience.

The food was unbelievably good. We’re struggling to think of the right superlatives to adequately describe the quality and sheer deliciousness of it all. The chef and chef’s brigade are masters of what they do. The setting is fun and homely. The service was exactly how you’d expect it to be - quiet, efficient, polite and always attentive. Fabulous. We shared the homemade bread and creamy homemade butter light starter. Delicious. We shared a Jerusalem Artichoke starter with the most amazing sauces. Unbelievable. One of us had the Cromer Crab special with potato and Feta salad. Excellent. The other of us had the Pork Loin medallions with char-grilled peaches and the most amazing potato element and sauces. The sauces were sublime. Utterly amazing. I was speechless at how good it all was and we’ve never had pork that was as perfectly cooked as a piece of perfectly cooked steak. Utter perfection.
