AA 2 Rosette restaurant. The Forge Restaurant in Chester is one of Chester’s best restaurants with delicious food and unrivalled service. With a passion for wild, sustainable British ingredients, and a love of simple cooking over fire and charcoal. The Forge has its kitchen front and centre in the middle of this lovely, and elegant space. Incredible dry-aged beef and wild venison will be found in the maturation cabinets, awaiting their turn on the amazing forge grill, to be lovingly grilled and roasted over beech logs. Head chef Dan Regan, a passionate chef, heads up the young, vibrant team in the kitchen. Combining amazing, wild, sustainable ingredients from land and sea into sumptuous creations that form really memorable eating experiences. We focus on British ingredients, as local to Chester. Our venison, always a hugely popular part of our menus, is harvested from herds on estates that focus on improving biodiversity and deer health – a process we call Farming the Wild.

Afternoon tea for three with champagne. The highlight was the sandwiches, they were all delicious and fresh. Two scones each followed by four little cakes. The lemon poppyseed cake was my favourite, I wasn’t keen on the Chou bun, it was a bit too heavy on the vanilla for my taste but that’s just personal preference. All three of us really enjoyed the experience.

worst experiance ive ever had dining out staff were so rude especially Ash food was under cooked to the point all of us have ended up with food poisioning staff got the bill wrong three times! actually added pounds on to what clearly stated on the menu for a certain price and then added on to it if i could give no stars i would i would not reccomend this place to anyone infact it was such a bad experiance that i have put it on social media when we told staff about the poor quality of food they tolled there eyes and did nothing about it disgusted with this place and the staff

The venue is a bit soulless. The food was OK nothing special. The service was slow, always had to call for attention. The wine selection was non existent and what was available was not good and extremely overpriced. £18 for a large glass of Chardonnay a better bottle of which could be bought in Waitrose or Tesco for around £10. Wouldn't go again and wouldn't recommend it.

We did the 5-course blind tasting. Really good concept and the food was delicious, service was a little slow as it was so busy, it took 30minutes to get our first course, but the service staff were attentive and friendly.

Food was really good. We had main menu and Sunday roast. Lovely. Good quality. Service a little slow and some menu items unavailable as well as no coffee. Would go again though.

After being recommended this restaurant I could not wait to celebrate my birthday here. Lovely setting, decor and ambience, but was very disappointed with the afternoon tea. Only one option of bread, so all sandwiches were served on white cheap bread, not good. Fillings were mediocre. The cake selection made up for the not so good sandwiches and cost. Staff very attentive and service good. Also the coffee machine was out of use the day of our visit. Would recommend this place for drinks but not the afternoon tea.
