The ‘Old Smithy’ in Washington Village, is a 400 year old Grade II Listed. The building has had a colourful past, formerly; a blacksmith’s forge, stables and even a pottery, it is famed locally for its connection to the capture of the highwayman Robert Hazlit who was arrested and subsequently hanged after being spotted having his horse shod here by the local blacksmith. Things are slightly different these days… Now ‘the Forge’, the building has undergone a full restoration and has been transformed into an eclectic, vibrant eatery, serving the highest quality wholesome fresh food this side of the river. Accompanied by an extensive wine selection, locally distilled gins, real ales and great cocktails, the Forge is an excellent destination for those seeking fantastic quality food and drink, prepared by experienced talented chefs in an historic yet cosy setting.

                                    A delicious Sunday lunch never disappoints,the service very good as usual and wine was excellent. Ambiance just right for a get together with friends.

                                    We booked using the online reservation system which was easy to use. We had a great Sunday Lunch In lovely surroundings.

                                    Managed to get a seat in the bar area at the last minute. The staff were extremely pleasant and the service was excellent. We had roast beef for Sunday lunch, which was delicious. I would recommend a visit to try out Lee's menu, make sure you book ahead as it's a very popular restaurant.

                                    its the third time I have been to the forge and previously I have to say the service was good and the food excellent, unfortunately on Saturday the service from the kitchen was very poor. we waited 15 minutes to get a menu and it took nearly 40 mins to receive our starter. the main meal was also 30-40 mins from order. which ruined our evening. we did highlight this to the manager who couldn't have been any more apologetic and even gave us our wine for free- this didn't really help as I'm more than happy to pay full price for my meal as long as we receive a decent service. fully appreciate there may have been extenuating circumstances around this issue but we went out to celebrate a happy occasion with me and my wife and it was pretty much spoilt which is a real shame.

                                    Visited several occasions and food is always of a very good standard. Reasonably priced wine and a nice relaxed atmosphere. So glad this restaurant is within easy walk of my house. Having said that it's worth the drive / taxi

                                    Been here now numerous times both for Sunday lunch and Saturday evenings. Beautiful food, beautiful wine and very interesting local gin selection every time. Only down side is I have to go over my “Syn” points on slimming world as I can’t resist the lesser free food if there is any....Well worth a visit and don’t let the menu put you off thinking there’s not much to chose from as my friends did as each time we’ve been we’ve had something different even managed a pudding last week (shared with the hubby ).
