We went there with our manager as she had never been there. She really liked it and enjoyed the evening.
It was my mom’s birthday and I booked a reservation at The Guild for lunch. Our server seemed to be more interested in chatting with her coworkers. It took us about 20 minutes until we got our order. My mom ordered a Caesar and it came out too spicy. They brought another one but it was still too spicy, so she ordered a coffee. It took about 10 minutes to get and then the server forgot cream, which took another 10 minutes and she forgot a spoon too, which she grabbed after. The food was nice and tasty, which wasn’t the problem, it was the lack of service. Whenever I was looking around trying to get our servers attention, she was chatting and none of the other servers came to help out. I was really disappointed as I had come before after work for appies and the service was great. I am definitely turned off from returning after this experience.
It was a really good meal!
Great food a bit in the pricey side though but I knew that before. Service was average nothing exceptional for a Wednesday evening.
Our server was awesome, very knowledgeable about the menu
Food was good- aged meatballs too salty and beets a little too Smokey
Went above and beyond to make a special day even more special for us. Thank you to all the staff at The Guild! Can’t wait to come back.
Dissapointed in my pizza choice. Bland. Crust kinda burnt. Another guests fries way overcooked.
Always love coming here for a pre-event warm up. The food is outstanding and the service top notch! Had the beet salad, fried mac and cheese, ribs, and deviled eggs for a quick bite this time and they were all so delish! Our server was attentive but not over bearing and super sweet! The dining room is decorated and styled in a super classy way.. which means you can bring your buds or gals our for a night out or enjoy a stylish business event as well. Keep it up guys!
We went here for my birthday. We’re a bit early but they let us in. The usual great food and service!
Lamb Steak was ok, service was excellent, ambiance was good. Would go again with a different main.
Food had plastic pieces in it and had to be sent back. Was not good at all !
Awesomeness as usual! Wowed a friend visiting from Toronto!
Food was good but not plentiful so don’t go too hungry! Pricey for what you get , focus was more on presentation which was beautiful. Would recommend for an experience but not a regular choice for us. Service was good but then it wasn’t busy either.
Went for our Anniversary! They treated us to a round of champagne! It was a really nice touch!
Not great for a business lunch as the music is over the top loud and we were told it isn’t possible to turn it quieter. Great for cocktails after work more likely.
Great place, good food and if you enjoy dessert, try the carrot cake
Brought our family from the UK. Unfortunately there were a lot of issues. They didn't have half the cuts on their menu. People who ordered the same cuts of meat had their orders mixed up. People who had larger cuts had their meat overcooked and were left hungry. People who ordered smaller cuts had huge steaks that were undercooked. We pointed this out to the waiter but they did nothing. Ordered two different bottles of wine, without being prompted, the waiter filled glasses mixing the wines. Pointed that out as well and was basically ignored. Wound up spending almost a grand on a dinner nobody was satisfied with. It was a Thursday night with few people in the restaurant. Wouldn't rank them even close to the best steakhouses in Calgary. We won't be going back.
Service good......but food not meeting expectations. Ordered Fish and Chips.....really overdone and chips was really not up to standard
Great, from greeting to farewell.
Although my main dish was great (beef short ribs) my partners main (rigatoni) was bland and forgettable. Service was slow and absent. Another guests meal arrived stone cold. Mostly misses.
The server was not very friendly and did not make us feel welcome. He did not check up on us and when he was he was also talking to other staff at the same time. The food was pretty good but the service really hindered the experience and I will not be recommending or returning to this establishment.
Amazing, went above and beyond. Excellent service and amazing food
My husband and I went to the Guild to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The staff went above and beyond to make the occasion special and the food was amazing. We will definitely go back soon.
I have been to he Guild many times for after work drinks. Enjoying the Guild's offering for Summerfeast was delicious and I would definitely return for dinner for a special occasion. I thought even the service was delivered with a bit more promptness and attention. Generally the service for after work drinks is good, but sometimes it's hot and miss.
Went for summer feast. It was great.
We had dinner on a very busy night - both the patio and inside seating were full and there was a lineup so service was slower than we have experienced in the past, especially drink service.
We enjoyed both appetizers, entrees and desserts on the Summer Feast menu. The winning dishes were the cod fritters, Rueben burger (so good!) and the date cake. No photo of the date cake as it was eaten too quickly!
Wrong orders. Sold out of many of hints we tried to order. Forgot orders. Wouldn’t be back.
This the the only restaurant on Stephen Ave that I return to time and again. The food, the staff/service and the atmosphere all contribute to an excellent dining experience.
I've been to The Guild a number of times with very positive experiences, however, this visit fell short. My dining companion and I both ordered the 3 course set menu for lunch and it took an hour for our main dishes (2nd course) to appear. For a business lunch, this is far too long. The 3rd course dessert was disappointing - the strawberry shortcake was dry and just sort of tasteless. That said, the 1st course cucumber salad was delicious.
We were there for a birthday. Beautiful table outside. Service was so slow. Taste of Simmer menu looked great. Bean dip was excellent. Mains were cold when they arrived. We had friends in from out of town and they needed to hit the road so we did not complain as there was no time. Resorted to getting deserts wrapped to go.
Good service, nice space, big patio. Pretty disappointed with some of the food. We went for summerfeast... cod critters were good but salmon tataki was cooked well done and very small. Meatballs from actual menu had a burnt taste to them. My husband's braised beef rib had the same burnt taste as the meatballs, very tender but taste was off. My cauliflower steak entre was tasty. Both Desserts were good but nothing to rant and rave about. Overall disappointed and likely won't return.
We enjoyed the atmosphere and it wasn't too loud to have a conversation. Arrived t 7 pm and there was a bit of a.delaynin our reservation, otherwise dinner was great. We enjoyed the summer feast selection.
This was my first time to The Guild and it was as delicious as I expected. The summer feast fixed price menu was delicious to share with my friend. I highly, highly, recommend everyone try the carrot cake. It is sublime!
As good as always, The Guild never disappoints! Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Perfect for business lunches.
Our server Jose 'made' our experience!
Being a group of ladies, we were a little concerned with the location of the bathrooms - a person in our group went down 3 floors and was alone in a somewhat 'creepy'/threatening situation. Perhaps a waiter coudl ask a lone woman going to the bathrooms if they coudl walk down with her. It was a good situation when other women were already down there.
The overall negative review is due to the fact that the server was neither professional nor accommodating. He seemed annoyed that we didn’t ordered alcoholic beverages even though I disclosed both of us were driving. To which he responded, “that’s what UBERs for” he continuously pressured us.
Truth is my friend has been recently diagnosed with depression and is on medication, in solidarity I choose not to consume any wine. He never filled up our water glasses and we had to ask him three times for lemon.
We ordered the pizza and a burger to split but he got a bit annoyed when we turned down the offer to order sides or a starter. We proclaimed that it would be enough food for us but thank you. He then berated us because we didn’t have any vegetables. So we asked him for recommendations and he said....mushrooms!?! a side of mushrooms with a burger and pizza, I was expecting more along the lines of a salad. Maybe he just wasn’t knowledgeable of the menu?
When our food was served he actually removed our water glasses off the table to “make room for our food” leaving us with no water, which we asked for but he never brought.
When our meal arrived he never asked how it was because he never came back. I had to go in search of ketchup for our fries which I think the manager finally brought me. A different girl brought our bill and took our payment.
Just really didn’t feel valued as a consumer, shame cause the food is quite good
We stopped at The Guild prior to a concert on a Sunday night. The special was great and the restaurant was relatively quiet for a summer evening. The food and service was great.
We booked the guild for our anniversary celebration dinner. We were very excited to try it out for the first time having seen the great reviews but we were met with disappointment.
To make a long story short there was a rather long hair found in my food and it put us off (only about 1/4 into our meal) and we ended up not finishing anything past that point as it was quite off putting. At first they only compensated us for the food that had the hair in it and they didn’t seem to be too apologetic, to us it seemed quite obvious to compensate us for the rest of the meal because it wasn’t touched. We were told that it happens and other guests just continue to eat.(?)Eventually after unneeded back and forth with the staff the other meal on the bill was taken off.
Overall really disappointed with the service and the way were treated there it was a very unpleasant thing to experience! Definitely will not return.
I would recommend but don’t go during “Happy Hour” as there are no real savings and it seems the service is intentionally slow so that you are unable to order more ‘specials’ from the happy hour menu.
