Since its original birth as The Load of Hay Tavern in 1721, this historic pub has taken on a few different guises in its lifetime. The Cart and Horses with its early Irish Haymakers crowding the bar, The Noble Art which was a part of the Belsize boxing club in the 1960’s, The Hill Pub, and until recently, The Hill Bar & Brasserie.

Now we have lovingly refurnished the business and reverted back to its original name, The Load of Hay Tavern. We are a craft beer bar and kitchen specialising in rotating quality craft style beers and fresh seasonal food served in a relaxed environment. To complement it, we have a superb wine list and stunning cocktails to satisfy the most discerning of tastes. Come down and check us out, we would love to meet you.

Bitterly disappointed with value for money and industry knowledge. Limited menu options and staff, though pleasant and friendly, were not trained to make cocktails. Overall a very disappointing evening. Would not recommend to others.

Absolutely beautiful Sunday lunch!Some great waiting team members as well, although one who welcomed us was incredibly moody and had her phone hanging out between her boobs which was very unprofessional and let it down about!! Great food and calm atmosphere when quiet/ fantastic atmosphere when busy. Really pretty lighting and cosy booths there too!!

The staff were amazing there was 14 of us and made us feel very welcome the food was lovely and great value for money it was that great we booked a family Easter Sunday lunch here

The worst place I have been to. Bad food. Half of the menue wasn't available. Staff untrained confused drinks 3 times. Absolutely the worst place ever.

It was so quiet on a Monday night it was a bit depressing. And many menu items were unavailable. The food that came was good however. I will try it again but will hope for a bit more atmosphere.

Generally very slow service of what appeared to be an understaffed establishment. Even the waitress apologised for the appalling service! Unfortunately the very average food was no consolation. A disappointing Sunday lunch. Would definitely not go back.

Had booked for Sunday lunch. Bar/restaurant was half empty but awfully understaffed; they didn't even have time to see to us and sit us down so we gave up and went elsewhere for lunch!

Pub unfortunately having renovations done above them (apartments which are nothing to do with pub) so scaffolding around the exterior. Kitchen was hopeless, pork belly cold and soggy crackling. Side of chips were very good though. There must be better pubs in Chalk Farm / Primrose Hill area.

We waited a long time for our food and the waiting staff we rushed off their feet so were difficult to get hold of. We were also told that we weren't allowed to order food for the first 15 mins that we were there. It seemed that they were understaffed and trying to cope with a full pub of diners, so they probably did a decent job given the circumstances, but it hampered our experience. The squid with chilli is simply deep fried squid with a LOT of sweet chilli sauce dumped all over it, it was disgusting. The pork roast however was lovely and my girlfriend enjoyed her fish and chips.
