Friendly landlord and waitresses.
Best pub food for miles around
Sunday roast lunch. Service was excellent but sadly the food did not match. Lamb was a mess of gristly offcuts. Kids chicken was just a thigh. Pork belly was at least passable. At gastropub prices, unacceptable.
We had a roast dinner. 1 beef and 1 chicken.....really nice food.
Then wow......dessert was salted caramel cheesecake with honeycomb and ice cream.
Now this you really need to try for yourself.
Staff really polite and attentive.
Well worth a visit. 5 star
All good but service was ok on drinks, but slow to take food order and even slower to deliver the mains. Friendly but slow. Shortage of staff for Sunday lunch I think
Food very good for a pub and value for money was excellent
We had a lovely evening friendly happy atmosphere, food was really good. Our waitress was helpful and friendly.
Staff are friendly especially mein host Nigel, food delicious and tasty try the pork rack of ribs. They were heavenly.
Friendly and accommodating. Food very good and size just right for what we had though would be nice to have a choice of smaller portions for different size appetites.
This is tricky because we do like the pub having been twice and would probably go again, as we moor our boat nearby. There were a few moans though...
The menu is limited, with a bit of an odd selection of dishes ranging from scampi to Chateaubriand and there were only 2 specials (mussels or ribs) when we arrived at 6.30 on a Friday evening. My partner chose mussels only to find they had run out. The fabulous fish Stew had also run out as there was no fish, so she had a burger.
My ribs were very good and the cauliflower cheese was the best I have ever eaten. But the ribs came on a board that was smaller then they were so I have no idea how I was supposed to eat my meal. I asked for a plate and sorted it, but it was odd.
The service was excellent, but we were sat on a very small table in the pub and the waitress struggled to get everything on the table. We had thought we'd booked the restaurant online but it seemed to be empty that evening. It wasn't a great place to sit and eat an evening meal.
Finally, and this makes me feel old, but the music was just too loud to talk without straining and the content far to heavy for the correct ambiance. I love rock music, but not over a romantic meal.
So a mixed review and I think some things to improve.
Nice dinner, good beer, lovely crew, j Will be back
We love the roast on a Sunday. Disappointed to see the lovely leather sofa in front of the fire has been replaced by a large table. It was a lovely cozy focal point on the winter so hope it makes a reappearance when the weather turns. The music level was a bit too loud for us too but the staff are lovely and friendly and the food is very good
The smell of cleaning product and the music being played created a certain artificial ambience. The service was polite but inefficient and slow.
The food was very tasty (especially the sardines) and we were not interrupted by that ubiquitous phrase "is everything alright with your food sir?" The kids loved the desserts.
Overall a pleasant occasion.
Very welcoming. Service good. Menu limited. Food average.
Lovely pub with delicious food. Went for a special occasion and were very happy with our choice. Very well organised and food delicious, fish and chips really tasty.
The Olive Tree serves the best Landlords beer I've experienced.
The fish and chips was excellent as was the service.
Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, great food, would definitely recommend
Utterly average gastropub, with a friendly waiter but the gratuity added to the bill unless there are objections is fairly cheeky considering the level of service in most non-touristy places that do add an upfront gratuity.
The food was good but not memorable and, although we chose one of their most expensive red wines by the glass, it wasn’t worth its price. The kind waiter apologised in advance because all our food had been prepared at once, starters and mains. The resulting amount of food all at once on our table attracted a significant amount of flies, probably the highest concentration that I have experienced in about 7 years of life in Britain and probably on par with a few other places I visited worldwide in the past 40+ years. It was also the first time in my life that I had a fly swimming in my wine.
The amount of flies, plus a wasp, contributed to a poor experience in terms of ambience. We’ve been always booking outdoors tables since the beginning of the pandemic and we love pubs in the countryside but the marquee outside the Olive Tree is quite plasticky and not great on a sunny day like today. The tables are also very basic, while most other pubs and restaurants choose nicer tables for areas covered by a marquee.
In the end I paid for the gratuity just because of the friendly waiter, but if I’ll be back for lunch or dinner in that area I’ll go back to a couple of places much better than this one.
Lovely food, best roast we have had eaten out in ages. Great service, very accommodating and prompt. Will return again
Fabulous Sunday roast, gorgeous pub, lovely staff ☺️
So good we are returning again tonight as staying locally,
Great as always, felt very covid safe and food was delicious
My colleague and I ate from the specials board: skate and fish soup. We were not disappointed, both meals delicious. The Olive Tree was surprisingly quiet for a Friday lunchtime, the service was as good as ever.
It wasn’t very busy but still took a reminder and an hour to deliver a burger and a curry. Then took a long time to attract anyone’s attention for the bill. Service amiable but not very attentive.
Yet again a delicious supper at The Olive Tree. It always exceeds expectations in food, ambience, service & a great evening.
Thank you to you all & see you all again very soon.
Great food, gray service and great selection of beer on draught
Great service from the Olive Tree team. Food was delicious, we had the fish in champagne sauce and would recommend it. The marquee was pleasant temperature even though outdoors. Great music.
Had my favourite hake and prawn Goan curry - always delicious.
Excellent specials on the board and good service.
Excellent meal, wine and service Tuesday lunchtime.
We were late for our booking due to traffic problems but they were very accommodating and our reservation was extended. Service was prompt and attentive without being intrusive. Food excellent - well presented and flavoursome. The management create just the right ambiance. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would recommend the Olive Tree to anyone.
We ate in in the marquee as there wasn't any outdoor space left. We thought it looked in need of a good clean but then realised that it would have been impossible to keep leaves etc blowing in from outside. That aside it was a pleasant experience, the food was very good and the service friendly and efficient.
Another fabulous supper at the Olive Tree. The Sea Bass on the specials board was particularly delicious and Kate our waitress was extremely attentive even though the pub had several big groups eating outside.
menu not really inspired, scampi, fish and chips and burger or vegi stuff. . Fri eve, only 25% full outside and they want to put us in a table in marquee furthest away from the pub, a mystery, but we complained and got an much better table
Food nice, but as it said, not much choice, as they had Goran curry as well, not everyone's choice dir a2 5degree summer evening , maybe a nice salad, chicken cesear salad, fishcake, summer dishes etc
Great food, great service and would recommend going
Nice Sunday Roast, very pleasant country pub. Quiet with good range of Beers
Excellent Sunday roast. Great service, good music and plenty of parking which is essential as I have limited mobility.
Great food, very enjoyable evening, generous portions
Sorry to say the food was not great - it took 40 mins to get starter and about the same for the main - the table next to us got up and left without eating. Shame really as nice setting and our waiter did his best to make good of the slow kitchen. Manager walked around and made no effort to help or to apologise for the lack of fooding coming out of the kitchen. Sorry but wont be going again which is a shame as it is in walking distance.
Lovely location, outdoor area and great service. Chicken and bacon sandwich was weirdly both too dry and too mayonnaisey at the same time.
They just keeping getting better! The mussels were superb and the fish curry extremely delicious. Well done Nigel and all the great team at The Olive Tree
Roast dinner was amazing , service fab, will be back.
