Tratto - San Francisco
Quick and helpful service to get us to our show, and. Theater price fixe menu
Booked a reservation here because it is close to he Curran Theater. My wife and I split the Arugula Salad and Gnocchi with braised beef. Both dishes were excellent and reminiscent of true Italian food. Service was great and prices were reasonable for the quality of food. I would definitely recommend Tratto for anyone visiting this area. We will be back!
It was perfect for what we wanted. We were seeing the 2 part Harry Potter play at the Curran and we had time between the shows for dinner. This is a very nice restaurant about half a block from the theater and they take reservations. It worked perfectly for us and the people were very nice. It was noisy in general, BUT we were able to hear each other across the table without raising our voices. The food was generally good.
Liked the ambiance of Tratto. The wait staff was attentive and the dessert was really good. Our pasta dish looked appetizing, but lacked flavor.
This was my second visit to Tratto having really enjoyed my first trip. The restaurant is in a hotel and does not have its own restrooms. Patrons are directed to use the hotel lobby restrooms which are just across the hall. This was a problem because hotel security followed me in to the bathroom and while I was occupied demanded to know who I was without identifying themselves. This is insane behavior for any business and rude beyond belief. The hotel manager added nothing to the conversation when I brought this to her attention. I will NEVER return to Tratto and cannot in good conscious recommend it if this is how patrons are treated.
Service was excellent - courteous and friendly. However, I wish we'd been told about the charge for water. We were surprised by the tacked on $6 charge for water upon receipt of the check. The food was good, but the tiramisu was a slight letdown.
honestly worth the price!! it tastes like real quality italian food. the pasta is made fresh - you'll lick your plate clean. however, the service is a bit slow.. other than that would definitely visit Tratto again.
My martini, a vodka martini, very simple, was awful. It tasted like a Fernet martini and was extremely gross. By the time the waiter came by to check on us, it was too late and I stuck with water.
Food was good, calamari, soup, caeser salad and a pasta dish.
Waiter seemed like he was too busy or we were just put in an area where we were easy to be forgotten about.
Meh. Good location for the Curran but unhelpful host and just so-so food.
We were really looking forward to eating at this restaurant before we went to the performance of Hamilton at 7 PM.
One of the reasons we chose Tratto, is because it’s open all day.
We felt that the server was not very engaged, seemed preoccupied. The service was spotty, and when we wanted our check he was nowhere to be found.
While the food was tasty, it was served lukewarm. We had soup and two swordfish entrées.
fantastic meal, delicious food, very attentive wait staff. we were in and out in under an hour. food was absolutely fantastic, will definitely return
Food was good. Vibe/ ambiance was suboptimal
Great pre-theater family dinner before Harry Potter - so good we dined 2 nights in a row - kids enjoyed it too!
We made a reservation here prior to watching Hamilton at the Orpheum. The service was quick and the food was delicious! I just wish their bread was free and not something you pay for, because it was so yummy! Their house red paired well with my spinach fettuccine bolognese. And we ended the dinner with their donuts with burnt caramel dipping sauce, which was also delicious. It was also my nieces birthday and they gave her complimentary tiramisu on the house, but the lady fingers were dry and it fell a little short.
If you’re ever at the Curran down from here, it’s a good place to grab a bite — reservation recommended. The service is excellent, but the food is just average at best. It’s “kid friendly,” though, and they do have pizza!
Had a reservation in between the Harry Potter play. Very smooth, no wait. Server was very blah. Took order, gave bill; that was it. Food was good and not too pricey.
Service very slow even though I put in notes I had a show to go to at a specific time. Getting someone’s attention was a challenge when few staff. We were seated by the window area and not the main seating area in the back. If you are a person who has no plans for the day and just wants to lounge around then coming here for lunch is for you. Their lunch menu is not the full menu they list online which was a bit disappointing. It’s a clean and well lighted environment.
Entree (chicken breast in mushroom sauce) was so bland my daughter’s salad actually had more flavor. A lot more. Service wasn’t bad per se, but a bit neglectful and dull. Didn’t get the server’s name because he interacted so little. Great location tho and convenient to theater.
Made 8:45 reservations for NYE. Arrived at 8:40 pm after a show. Were seated and told that the kitchen closed at 9 pm and we needed to order everything (including all drinks and dessert) before 9 pm or we wouldn't get to eat. It was too late on NYE to find an alternative location so we stayed and ordered. Our appetizer and main dish both arrived within minutes. We were done our entire meal by 9:15 pm and basically asked to leave. Horrible experience for NYE. Why have an 8:45 pm reservation if you plan on closing at 9 pm??? Would never go back here.
Tratto service was great. The food was really good as well. I would recommend this place to a friend.
Always make sure we have a meal (or two) at Tratto whenever we are in San Francisco. Never disappoints!
Amazing food and exceptional service. Friendly staff. Can’t wait to go back!
Very good products and original/ creative italian recipes. We loved it.
Not a great dining experience. Over priced and food quality very mediocre. Won’t come again. Not recommended.
Great place to stop not over priced. Great service
A wonderful evening. We will be back
Marked it was a birthday and they didn’t even acknowledge it
We ended up here because they had a children’s menu and it was conveniently located near Union Square. We ordered two pizzas -a tomato, mozzarella and Basil which was delicious and one salame which was on the dry side. One adult ordered the minestrone soup and the vegetables (including butternut squash) were very undercooked. The options for children were Ok — pasta, chicken renders, pizza. The staff were very accommodating and efficient. We had a reservation through Open Table and we had a table waiting for us upon arrival.
We weren't expecting much except a quick place to grab dinner before the theater, but Tratto was wonderful. Excellent drinks, incredible food, good service. From the baked-when-ordered foccaccia to the amazingly fresh pasts though to the delicious cappuccino: we had absolutely no complaints.
Delicious food and great service! Will be a new holiday tradition for our family.
We were sat at a wonderful table by the window. The service started off great but deteriorated after the first round of drinks. It was not very busy so not sure why the server seemed to disappear at times. The focaccia bread was good served with oil and vinegar. Next we shared the Caesar salad which was pretty good (whole fillets of anchovies in this salad so be aware). It was also a good size to share. For our main course I had the lemon fettuccine with cacciatore chicken- did not taste any lemon and the noodles had a strange texture like it sat in the window too long and they either had to microwave it or it was under a heat lamp too long. The chicken was very moist and delicious, but the flavors lacked in the rest of the dish. My husband had the spinach tagliatelle with 3 meat sauce- surprisingly it was dry and under flavored. My son had the kids cheese pizza which was probably the favorite on the table.
Had reservations, confirmed by responding to open table/ site text, ushered into back claustrophobic room with 5 tables when all of front area was almost empty. Waited for quite some time (over 15 minutes) for any service (drinks or food), female barely peaked around the corner to take order over the shoulder of my dining party; didn’t write anything down, almost got entire order correct; polenta fries, olives were great appetizers, fried calamari was common, swordfish was good but with no sides included wasn’t worth the price, gnocchi and short rib almost had too much shredded short rib and a bit dry; fungi pizza was great and broccoli pesto with saucer-type pasta was quite bland; a couple craft-type drinks were good, didn’t try wine menu; donut dessert had weird after taste, sorbet was great. All in all, just OK, not sure we would go back even tho it’s so close to theaters which I am sure they benefit from....
Family pre Xmas get together
The food was amazing. The location was perfect. Great experience. Will definitely go back.
Good for a casual meal. Not a particularly warm ambiance as every surface is hard and the chairs are not very comfortable. But good for families and informal meals.
Super helpful, friendly staff with one of our party's Gluten Free needs. Great option for those seeing shows at the Curran, but if you are doing so, make sure to get reservations ahead of time. Highly recommend!
At 10PM on Friday the restaurant was almost empty. Staff was welcoming. Above average Cocktails. Nice subtle butter lettuce salad with a avocado — dressed lightly, with a lemon vinaigrette. Delicious gnocchi with a hearty braised beef sauce was savory with light gnocchi pillows of pasta. The salami pizza had a nice thin crispy chewy crust, flavorful chunky tomato sauce with thin sliced peppers. For me, I like my salami a little crisper and easier to bite through — there was tendency for the salami to pull off other toppings as it pulled away whole in some bite, leaving others mostly bread and sauce. I would come back again for Salad and gnocchi and try more dishes. I would also like to experience a more energetic room with more guests since it was unusually quiet. None of the staff ever gave us the feeling of being hovered over or made to feel like they were waiting for us to leave. The service was just right.
Good Italian food with a twist, good service and easy to get around in. Everyone seem to be liking the food and the vibe was good.
This was our fisrt time at Tratto. It was very good and enjoyable. There were a couple of minor glitches , items that took a little long to arrive and missing dessert item, but overall we really enjoyed it! The sewrvice was very good!
Dinner between theatre shows
Always disappointing when a restaurant, especially one connected to a hotel, is out of items on the menu, especially on a weekend night...interesting staff: young woman at the front desk has a great scowl, waiter was polite but indifferent/not interested very much, & the bus staff exceedingly friendly & solicitous, very, very nice...
We also expected the food to be better than it was but it was okay...marginally acceptable for pre & post theater---very good location in that regard...
