Excellent meal! Fresh homemade pasta, salmon, bread, dipping sauce, and veggies. Loved the decour and the service. We'll be back.
This was a group luncheon that went from 12 to 18. The restaurant was understanding and the service was impeccable. Our waiters had great suggestions showing they were well versed with the menu and taking into account allergies and food preferences/diets.
Waitress was hilarious, fun and over the top amazing. The place was big, so we didn't get kicked out as our res was 6pm and we didn't leave till 10pm. Being a bunch of girls, we shared everything and everything was good. Large portions too. There is no cake cutting fee! Some places we've dined at was going to charge $5 a person! Another perk was that if you buy a bottle, you can bring in a bottle with no corkage fee. I also heard that Sundays, kids get a free meal with a purchase of an adult meal.
Was great. Dessert was nothing special but I think the key lime would have been better than baked Alaskan. Nonetheless the food was prompt. Drink we’re great. Nachos were amazing as was the risotto and pesto pasta. Would def come back.
They changed the dishes on the menu. Their signature dish the Louisiana Prawns were completely different. They were not the tiger prawns and were served with rice pilaf instead of garlic mashed potatoes. Also the ochre was not deep fried. The entire meal was disappointing. My husbands skirt steak was also different. So disappointed!!!
Birthday! Super fun, all ages welcomed.
I've heard good things but my seafood w/ angel hair pasta was disgusting. It tasted like something had went bad. Also, in general had little flavor. Maybe it was just that 1 dish. Drinks were good.
A great spot with a nice yet versatile menu. Best for those who eat meat or seafood. Wonderful staff.
The food and service was great!
Great place for a quick, but nice dinner with work colleagues before an evening event.
My colleagues were late arriving so I hung out at the bar, feeling good and watching the people. Sort of a mix of hipsters and older people. We were seated in a high traffic area. The noise level was loud enough to make conversation a little difficult with people seated directly across from you. We all order the ribeye steak which was outrageously good. We each asked for our steak to be cooked differently and the kitchen nailed each one. Server was friendly but service was a little slow. she disappeared for a long stretch.
Great place, friendly staff and great service. Several people were celebrating birthdays so seems like a good place for celebrations. We went for dinner and the service was great. The server was very well versed on all the dishes. Went with her reccomendation of the Baked Alaska and it was fanatstic! Highly reccommend
OMG!!! Such amazing food! We're always trying to get more vegetables in our diet, but they don't always taste good. These guys knocked their salads and any other veggies they served, out of the park! Plus I had seasonal filet mignon tacos and they were amazing. It was my husband's birthday, so I sneaked away from him using a bathroom trip as a guise, and spoke to Adam, our waiter, about a special dessert for hubby. Adam told me he had me covered. You should have seen my husband's eyes when a Baked Alaska appeared at the end of our meal, and Adam lit that sucker on fire. Hubby was so happy. He said the last time he had Baked Alaska was on his 13th birthday when he asked his mother for it for his birthday cake. This treat reminded him of that very special days, forty years before. Adam and The Vault really scored! So thank you, Vault! You guys ROCK!!! We'll be BACK!!!
Our main meal came so over cooked we couldn’t eat it, and sent it back.
The food, ambience and our server, Karina, were great. The one policy we didn’t appreciate was that it was mandated when someone called to confirm that “only 1 credit card per table is allowed.” We had a party of 3 married couples and have never had that policy at any other restaurant. We all brought cash to pay ...which I think is why that policy is in place, so no credit card service fees are then imposed on the restaurant. Credit cards are a convenience for the customers and splitting a bill 2 or 3 ways can’t be that big of a hardship. We were not asking for separate checks!
Great experience! We were seated promptly at our reservation time and got excellent and timely service from our server. All of our food was great and the manager came by to check that we had a good experience. We will certainly revisit in the future.
Service was very good. I believe her name was Story. She was knowledge, friendly and very good. We will be back again! Loved the decor.
Very good restaurant. Be sure to order Brussel sprout chips. Wish they had a valet.
Everything was fine.
Good restaurant. Nice food. Had the mac & cheese with lobster.
Very nice. They have a large GF menu!
I have celiac and I’m vegan, and Vault 164 easily accommodates me. Their kitchen is not specifically GF, but, so far, I have had no issues after eating here. It’s nice to have a great place with delicious food close by!
Vault 164 is a lively restaurant in downtown San Mateo. Apparently, they have a kids promotion on Sunday nights, so there were a lot of kids when we dined. However, the space is large enough that the sound dissipates somewhat.
The wait staff is friendly, and the martinis are large. My filet mignon came out perfectly prepared, with spiral-cut zucchini and a mashed/baked potato on the side. It was all delicious. My dining companion had a Cobb salad, which was huge.
I would definitely recommend Vault 164 for a fun evening out.
Great food! Great service! Rosalie, our server was terrific! The food was fast but very very good! Lovely birthday dessert, too.
Food was okay....nothing special. Server Rosalie was awesome + personable. Did appreciate her attentiveness.
The service is friendly and efficient at Vault. We tried the paella special and were disappointed. The rice was dry, the mussels were teeny and overall not very tasty. The street tacos were ok, not great. The desserts were delicious. So, some in our group really like eating here and some don't.
Not normally a dessert fan but their baked Alaska was fantastic and is easily shared at the table.
The menu at Vault 164 looked great, but we had little luck. Our appetizer was crab cakes and they were outstanding, but it went downhill from there. I had the flank steak ($32) and it was fatty and chewy. Flavor was fine, preparation was fine--medium well, but the steak itself was not good. Maybe the top sirloin would have been better for $7 more. My wife had the wild mushroom risotto ($21), but she said it was flavorless, left 90 percent of it in the bowl and picked all the kale off my plate, which was pretty good, being soaked the flank steak gravy. All-in-all, disappointing. The restaurant was okay, we were seated quickly and service was fine, but it sucked to be paying these kinds of prices and have servers all in tee shirts. The did seem to pick up my reservation note that I did not want to be seated near a serving station or kitchen, so that counts. Men's bathroom was pretty iffy, no class at all, anyone passing could look right in the door at users if it was being opened at the time. Tab was $140 with one drink each, for a so-so experience. Pretty unlikely we'll return.
Had a table for 2 on a Friday celebrating girlfriend's birthday, had hoped to impress without breaking the bank:
Wasn't quite as special or unique as I had anticipated. From coming in the door we were guided to the right into what maybe seemed like a overflow addition section. Idk why chairs matter so much to me, but the chairs seemed middling common upscale diner quality, online I remembered seeing nicer looking ones that appeared to be leather apholstered with wood. No big deal, but I guess I had illusions of grandeur. The lighting and atmosphere was good. Our table was tiny and up against a pillar, which wasn't ideal for us but hopefully you miss that table and section on your journey.
Did an appetizer of bacon wrapped dates and shrimp. Was decent but bigger than expected.
I ordered a filet mignon - was everything I expected of a steak house, the enormous portion and plate sizes with accompanying side dishes was a bit overwhelming, especially with our smaller table but were good. The side dishes were spiralized and spiced zucchini, was good perhaps slightly over salted (as was the majority of the meal). I did enjoy the meal overall.
She did the chicken and said it was good but due to the massive portions and the appetizer we had earlier, she tapped out pretty early. Didn't seem like she was gushing over the chicken, but it was chicken. It worked.
The waiter was nice enough although not outstandingly attentive. This was fine as we had enough time to talk. Getting the bill post gut bomb with the plate sizes took a while but could see it being a tricky place to get in and out of quickly.
Hope that helps!
The food and service at Vault 164 is always outstanding. Their paella special was excellent as well as their fresh bread. It's a little noisy so conversation was a little difficult but, overall, it was a lovely evening.
I believe our server's name was Joeline? Anyways phenomenal service. We went for my wife's bday and she was treated like royalty. Lil expensive but we will definitely be back!
Excellent service and food. Adam at the bar was so awesome! Pedro our server was phenomenal! Food was wonderful too! Would definitely return!
It was my husband’s birthday. Our family chooses to celebrate many of our special occasions at Vault 164 not only for the variety and quality of food, but of the outstanding personable service we receive from Rosalie and Candee.
Drinks were excellent. Actually everything was well worth it. The Brussels sprout appetizer and dinner was perfect. Service was outstanding. If I were to rate our experience on a 1 - 10 it would be 20.
-- very small round tables in the bar area - especially with 4 people. just enough to fit our drink, and one appetizer. no room for water
-- waitress did not consistently check in. had to ask someone else for our bill
-- food was good as always
-- we do happy hours a lot so if this place wants to ensure people go to their HH, they need to rethink the small tables
Delicious food, very attentive server, good cocktails.
Food was incredible, and the wait staff was so attentive. The ambiance of the restaurant was great and I'm so excited to eat there again.
3 of 4 meals were very good. My husband order the filet mignon, as he had once before. At that time it was served with creamy garlic mashed potatoes. This time it was served with a baked? potato which was more like a rock. A tasteless rock at that. (I tried it.) He was very disappointed. Had he told me sooner, I would have sent it back in an instant. I have always had a good meal, so hard for me to complain. However, he does not want to go back. I've been to Vault 164 much more than my husband has. He has been there 3 times. The first time he gave rave reviews and when an occasion came up he would say let's go to Vault 164! I wish I could remember what he ordered the second time there, but it was not a positive experience. So I'm afraid this third time was enough for him. I'll probably have to go back to Vault 164 on my own. This is why I cannot give 100%.
The food was delicious! We were celebrating and birthday and would definitely go back. Love how they also have a gluten-free menu.
Food incredibly underseasoned. The spicy tuna tower lacked any and all seasoning much less spice. Salmon and veggies on a plank were overcooked and flavorless.
