Yafa was better than I remember. One of our go to’s while in Carmel.
We enjoyed our meal at YAFA. The owner (I’m assuming) was very friendly. Our dinner took a while to arrive and they forgot my sauvignon blanc, but once we had our dinners, we were quite happy. I had the pan seared salmon in a dill and caper sauce over veggies and my husband had the seafood pasta We ended the evening with a decadent chocolate cake and
Ouzo which were perfect! It’s a small, somewhat noisy place with plastic tablecloths. I would love to see better linens, but everything else was great.
Dia and Rita are amazing hosts. The atmosphere and service is wonderful and the food is 5star all the way. I have tried almost everything in the menu and it is all remarkable.
We were disappointed in the food taste - we had been here a couple of years ago and the food seemed much better. Everything we ordered was far from the best we have enjoyed at other Mediterranean restaurants.
The whole experience was perfection. The food, wine, and service will keep us coming back for more.
The food was excellent and the staff friendly and accommodating. When our waiter noticed that I didn't eat my chicken skewers, the owner came to our table and apologized that they were over cooked. He then insisted on not charging us. Wonderful customer service!
Prompt courteous service, excellent food, on the pricey side, very high noise level inside,
Food was fantastic! Had to wait awhile for the food, but it was well worth the wait!
The service was terrible. We waited and waited to get water and it never came. Normally you get drinks before your food but we received our food and didn’t get drinks until we were almost done eating our food. That was after we asked three separate times for water. Then at the end we ask for the bill and I never came after 45 minutes so we ended up walking up to the cash register and ask him to pay then. There was a dog inside the restaurant that would not stop barking.
Food was pretty good… but as a Lebanese, not exactly what I expected. Everything was delicious, though.
We had lamb meatballs in pasta, Kafta kabobs of lamb and beef, and a labneh starter. The labneh starter was the one that threw me off- it was tzadziki flavored labneh!
It was good… but just not what I was expecting. The pasta seemed authentic and hand pulled, and meats were high quality, tasty, perfectly spiced, and the meat was not dry.
To be fair, I've been to Yafa many times and the service is usually excellent. However, I took a new guest there on a Saturday and it took us an HOUR to get drinks and and hour and 15-20 minutes to get food. As there was really no other place to go in Carmel, we were stuck. The food here is always excellent, but the service was atrocious. One server served several other tables before us multiple times. The staff made us feel invisible. Covid has ravaged the service industry and I also feel they did not have enough help. Food was fantastic as always, but you should'nt have to wait an hour and a half for it- especially with a reservation.
Enjoyed our time there. Good food and service. Love the outside dining. Wish Carmel would let them keep it.
I may dream about their butternut squash ravioli for the rest of my life!! Amazing!
Incredibly busy. We booked a reservation online but waited 35 minutes to be seated. Once seated ambiance was lovely. All the staff members were working extremely fast and seemed completely overwhelmed. The pace of food arriving was slow. The food was delicious. It’s a great place but it seems like they need a bigger kitchen & more tables for 2 so seats don’t go vacant while so many people are waiting.
I appreciated the dessert with candle per the birthday mention in the OpenTable notes. Many places forget it. Our table was on large outdoor slat, but the heat lamps were most appreciated. Service was spotty - but probably understaffed due to Covid. Most of our dishes were excellent- get the lamb, shrimp, and cauliflower steak, but skip the octopus. Nice pours for the wine by the glass.
Food was bad, over cooked and overpriced and had horrendous service.
Great food, cute vibe; HUGE glasses of wine! ;)
Used to be good.
Yafa is definitely overrated. The food was flavorless and service was pretty unfriendly. It’s super expensive for what’s served!
Had a wonderful experience; the food was amazing and loved the atmosphere. Will definitely be back, when we visit Carmel, in the future.
Excellent food and service. Highly recommend
The food and the service were just OK, nothing to write home about. I don't think we will be back.
The ambiance, service and food was great! Good option in the town.
Had the lamb and it was great
Wonderful restaurant in a town of restaurants.
fantastic service. will definitely be back!
Really attentive service, plenty of wines available by the glass at reasonable prices and very good food. New owner took over only a few months before Covid19 shut down and has done a great job hiring and training really good staff. We will go back next time we're in Carmel.
I wouldn’t go again(( from whole 6 items I did like just one, my kebab was raw,
As always, the service, food and ambiance were excellent. Just wish we lived nearer and o visit more often!
Food was ok., not gourmet. Very simple decor. Service was ok too.
While we had enjoyed Yafa as take out, our in restaurant experience was quite disappointing. We requested seating outside. We were delayed from our reservation time by 15 minutes. After we sat down it took time to give drink orders, more time to get them, long wait for waiter and very long time for apps and entrees. All in all, it took nearly 3 hours from start of seating until last dish served. While the food was generally good, ravioli was dried out from heat lamp and the wait dampened our whole experience. The staff did not show much interest in the fact that we had waited so long!!
Outstanding service a d food
Overpriced, service is not great.
Chairs and table from Costco and look cheap. Not adequate to the price range.
Overall everything was well balanced. From the delicious food portions to the warm staff that helps is out. I would recommend anyone that is craving great tasting Mediterranean food to stop by and dine!
" Poor service, tiny portions, on the expensive side, only good is the food"
I took a couple of weeks to write this review, as I really wanted to have time at hand to write it.
We went there 2 weeks back as the party of 8. The only good thing I can say is the ' taste of the food', it was delicious. I frequent Carmel and have dined at numerous restaurants, all the places are on the ' expensive side', but at least the service is exceptional and portion sizes are decent.
At Yafa, the portion sizes are extremely small.
We had to keep asking for pita bread, and finally almost when we were done with our food, 1 side of pita bread arrived. Even after spending close to 350-400$, they charged us 1.5$ for 3 tiny pieces of pita. Usually, I wouldn’t have had an issue with that, but this time, after asking for it like 6 times, it arrived when we were almost about to leave. We didn't feel 'content' with our experience and our food.
We asked the manager( I think), who was serving us if he thinks the portion would be enough for one, he quite rudely answered, ' I don't know, but it won't be enough for even one '. Won't be going back here again nor recommend this place to anyone.
The food at Yafa was outstanding. The service from the owners themselves waiting tables was truly a delight. They brought us champagne on the house and had an amazing array of specials that evening. The only negative was when one of the owners announced to all the diners that the service was slow because of the extension of unemployment benefits and then proceeded to badmouth the current administration. He seem to realize pretty quickly that this was unnecessary and inappropriate so he stopped. It was odd that he stood up and made this political statement to a group of people that were there trying to support his business. I think he was just truly at his wits end because they were very busy and he clearly did not have enough staff. Luckily, the food made up for this unfortunate incident.
Yafa is a mom and pop small cozy restaurant. I don’t know exact date but business was sold during Covid 2020 to present owner Dia. Delightful man, energetic and friendly. Service people aren’t trained ( dirty, used dishes left on table way too,long- no follow up “ how is your food, etc) — my son and I had octopus appetizer- very good flavor but tougher than a 50cent steak. When I told Dia, ( just info not a complaint) he said, “really.”?
They are trying hard but the reality is in Carmel there are way too many better choices.
There’s a market for Mediterranean food. I hope he gets properly trained chef and staff.
Excellent staff and quality food
Everything was great. Food, service and ambiance. However the amount of Gorgonzola on the filet was a bit much, but all I had to do was scrape it off and use on my pita bread.
Yummy food, super friendly service ! Will return 😊
