The Bank and Baron Pub
Music was too loud. Hard to have a conversation.
The pub is ok at night, but I would not recommend for Sunday Brunch. In -25 degree weather the staff was late and we were left waiting outside. The meal was not great at all, and breakfast is pretty hard to mess up. Disappointed for sure!
Everything was great - unfortunately our first drink request (strawberry lemonade) and meal request (fish) was unavailable on this date.
Cold by the door and they wouldn’t close, wines not available, beer was warm, they did try and the food was good but overall disappointing
We had a very enjoyable dinner and the service was excellent. Our server was very busy but attended to our table masterfully. And the beer was nice a frosty cold!
Food and service were excellent! Was not overly impressed at the reserved table at the door where we were seated.
Overall it was excellent, food was great, ambiance was good and we had a good time.
Only slight negative was the service. I want to preface and say that it was very busy on Friday Dec 13th and I know our waitress was rushing between tables, and doing her absolute best to make sure orders got into the kitchen. She was excellent in this regard and was very nice and positive. However, whenever she was at our table asking if everyone needed anything else, she had a habit of only listening to one person's order and then leaving. There were 6 people at our table and often she left in such a rush that the remaining 5 of us were not able to order additional drinks/ food. At one point while ordering additional drinks she turned around halfway through our table ordering and went to the bar, we had to call her back over as two people at our table still had not ordered food or drinks at this point (This was their second time trying to order with her). Understandably it was busy, and she was doing her absolute best and I commend her for staying positive and upbeat the whole time. But we would have ordered a lot more drinks or food had we been given the chance to.
Service was too slow. I had a double cheese burger and it was over cooked. The cheese was low quality and the mayo seemed to be under a heat lamp as the top was separating.
Great happy hour prices and service!
We stopped into the Bank and Baron before heading out to see A Christmas Carol. Service was great, we hit happy hour so value was awesome. The manager went the extra mile to make our evening awesome
They could have done so much more with this place. Still beautiful, but could have been amazing.
The food was very average, but the cocktails were very good.
Service was really good.
I'd certainly go again, but it would be for drinks and not the food.
We were seated at a table that looked hastily erected by the hostess stand by the stairs to the washroom. It felt like we were squeezed in, which was unfortunate because we had reservations. It felt more like we were being served in the entryway rather than the actual pub/restaurant.
1st time at the Bank and Baron Pub and everything was great. Service, food and ambiance.
The menu is not very big but has a very good selection of appetizers, salad, hand held and mains.
Timing of the food was not rushed so we were able to enjoy the appetizers and our beverages before the main course arrived.
Looking forward to our next visit.
Full place and not enough staff.
Our server was amazing! So many people came in-including large groups and the load on the staff was crazy! She handled it all way better than I would have expected! Good for business, but not sure it was the norm.
The servers were rude, we've been there for an hour an a half as we were waiting for our other friends and the girls kept looking at us and everytime we look there way they continue talking again
Had the fish and chips and the fish seemed a little undercooked.
The pizza and ribs were delicious. Great service. Inside was beautiful. Thanks for the enjoyable evening
One of the best on Stephen Ave. Always amazing service, great food and cheap beer!
We enjoyed dining at The Bank and Baron Pub. Our flatbreads were delicious and the beer battered fries were crunchy. The service was prompt and friendly. This establishment is sited in a former bank and has great ambience. Definitely worth a visit for a drink and/or a meal when in Calgary.
We were very disappointed with the hostess. We arrived early for our reservation and requested a low table since I have difficulty with mobility. She indicated she would seat us at a table the first one available. We went to-the bar to wait. The hostess was right behind us and proceeded to seat 2 other parties as tables became available. We confronted her but her explanation didn’t match what she promised us of having the first available table.
We were traveling to Calgary and this first impression of the city set a negative tone for us.
The atmosphere was very nice, servers were very friendly and had great hospitality. The overall beauty of the history in the building was very exquisite and learned a lot about the history of the building while being shown around! Highly recommend, food was also very delicious!
We ordered fish and chips, a salad and cream of mushroom soup. I am particularly fond of mushroom soup unfortunately it was heavily seasoned with cumin. Rather an odd choice and definitely not worth 13 dollars. The fish and chips were disappointing, small portions, overfried and there was no malt vinegar in the place. The tartar sauce was heavily seasoned with dill. Lovely building but poorly prepared food save yourself the visit.
Wish there were more vegetarian and gluten free options. Service was excellent though!
Had the halibut with mango salsa. Fish was flavourless and the mango salsa wasn’t flavourful enough to compensate.
Bison on the bison nachos was dry and over cooked.
Very slow service. Waited a long time in between drinks, waited very long for the bill, water was never really topped up. It didn't seem that busy inside so perhaps there was not enough staff. Our lunch took over 1.5 hours when usually it should be 1 hour tops. Food was great but the service was much too slow.
Service is slow and awkward. They kept changing servers and not sure why.
Good food, nice atmosphere and food came very quickly which is important when your on lunch break. Will definitely be back.
Well it wasn't very busy at lunch time but they still sat us at probably the worst table. There were only 100 other options but if that's where they wanted to put us message, loud and clear. Ruined the experience, although the food is nice so I'll probably be back I just won't recommend it as much. The maple bacon wings were absolutely delicious highly recommend
Service was excellent, food was really good and overall a great place. Only strange part is that food always seems to take a long time here. We've eaten here 3x in last couple months and each time it has taken a bit longer than usual to get food, which can be ok given the list of cocktails but not if you're on a tight timeline.
This place is amazing! The food is to die for! They did a wonderful job with the ambiance!
Try the steak bites! You won’t be disappointed!
Food was fine, we had wild boar pizza and truffle and parmesan chips. We thought the chips would be warm, but they were not: no big deal very crispy and tasty. Wild boar flavour and meat in the pizza, was very tasty. Server was excellent, attentive and friendly.
The down side is the tight quarters and noise level. We were seated at a table for two on a row of similar tables that looked like that as an afterthought they were squeezed in between the bar and the booths. We had to be careful we didn't elbow people going by. It was date night for my wife and me before going to a concert at Jack Singer, but we really couldn't enjoy a conversation over the noise level. We decided to forgo an after dinner drink and had one at Jack Singer instead.
I would likely go back for a drink, but not dinner.
Don’t eat here if you are hoping for your salad to arrive less than 30 minutes and taste like cleaning products were washed but not rinsed ... or if you wish to have your entree of dried and chewy halibut served served at least 60 minutes after placing your order...I got up twice to ask the status... I was not alone ... as the others were waiting excessive too.. perhaps communication would have improved my review... but that was not there either ...disappointment...
We caught them on a busier-than-normal Sunday evening so they seemed a little short-handed, but that was made up for by Zach's enthusiasm in greeting and interacting with *everyone* that came in. We had made a dinner reservation for 7:30 and he was thoughtful enough to call us while we were on our way into Calgary to let us know the kitchen closes at 7 that evening. We saw Zach take so much interest in making sure people were happy with their meals and drinks that we even asked if he was one of the owners (he treats the place like it's his own baby). We'd definitely recommend it!
Food was ok, not sure who they want as clientele, some entrees were very pricey. Very loud music, tough to converse.
i waited 20 minutes till the hostess finally came over and asked if i wanted a drink..yes..then waited another 10 mins and finally asked a waitress if she was for our table..told no..but she came back and said she was....she was very good after that. my cousin ordered the house white-on wed half price..they had run out..it was 4:30 ..seriously? i ordered the gyozos...they came....and i waited at least 5-10 mins for cutlery...needless to say the goyzos were slightly cold by then..anyway....after that..cousin ordered soup...but it took at least another 15 mins...all in all...bad bad bad...oh and my other cousin a pizza..that was raw in the middle...anyway...
Hi Wendy, We would like to apologize for your most recent experience with us. The Bank & Baron strives to provide excellent service and exceptional food and we are sorry to hear that we missed the mark on both on the day of your visit. If you could e-mail us through the contact form on our website so that we have the opportunity to make it up to you. We appreciate your feedback and it will help us improve on future service.
I love reserving a table at bank and baron cause then you get the booths (usually). They're more private and great for 3 to 6 people.. also they have happy hour options that are tasty and varied enough though not too numerous.
Really nice environment. Fun atmosphere Enjoyed watching the sporting event there but tv’s could be a bit bigger.
The atmosphere of the pub is great. Service was also great. The food was basic pub food which I expected a slightly higher quality. Everything was great but the food.
