Zuni Caesar salad
I’ve been going to Zuni since they opened. I lived nearby. We continue coming back when in SF. It’s consistently awesome with good food and great service. Love their polenta, oysters, Caesar salad, chicken and pot de creme. Always a winner
UGH! Zuni Cafe, what happened to you? Did the pandemic impact you that much? Even during the pandemic, I got take out from you on a monthly basis and loved it; however, our in-person dining last night left me wondering how the bill was justified given the bland imagine-less food. Even though the service was nice and welcoming, I nearly sent back my main meal and the other two people in my party were also dissatisfied with their main course. It pains me to write this review because I've loved dining there for so many years but it was more painful to have to pay the exorbitantly high bill after a disappointing meal.
NOT MANY PEOPLE THERE. ALWAYS FULL FOR LAST 45 YEARS. IS IT 20% TIP
We loved spending our afternoon with you at Zuni!
Always a pleasure to be at the incomparable Zuni…
Amazing food. Love the daily change in menu. Seasonal and local ingredients.
Our group had Caesar salads, "the" chicken, shoestring potatoes, trout and rabbit boudin. Espresso granita and bread pudding for dessert. All delicious. Worth logging on at 3:00 am in Atlanta to secure the reservation.
Zuni’s consistency is remarkable. The food, no matter what you order, is always perfectly fresh, perfectly seasoned, perfectly presented. On my latest visit, a friend and I both chose a frisée salad, served with two wonderful rabbit sausages and topped with medium boiled eggs, whose runny yolks were a deep golden yellow. We shared a desert, layers of cream, figs and strawberries topped with crumbled ginger snaps. PerfectIon!
The food and service and atmosphere are so amazing!
Zuni is still an essential SF dining experience. Service is professional and gracious. Food delicious, beautiful and not at all precious. Reading the wine list is educational. We would give Zuni 6 stars for the overall experience.
Even better than I remembered! Delicious and lovely.
Zuni is always delightful in every way. The balsamic Bloody Mary is outstanding. I actually dreamed about it during Covid lockdown.
The menu always has both seasonal choices and mainstays. Yesterday the Caesar was my mainstay choice. The lettuce was crisp and the dressing had a slight lemon taste. We also enjoyed another Zuni favorite, shoestring potatoes, which are always perfectly crispy with a light salt flavor. We strayed from the roast chicken, a must have if your first visit to Zuni, and enjoyed the scrambled eggs (me) and polenta. (my partner) Both dishes were tasty. We had to pass on dessert but everything coming out of the kitchen was enticing.
We are so glad that Zuni survived 2020 and, since reopening last Fall for dine in service, has made Covid accommodations for which we are grateful. We are also big supporters of the living wage gratuity policy.
Excellent food, service and ambience. Multiple friends told us it was a must do and we agree. Their classic roasted chicken dish was to die for. We had a great seat and view of the kitchen. Our server was knowledgeable, helpful and personable. Cocktails were great as well. A must do for brunch, lunch or dinner if visiting SFO. We look forward to returning in the future.
Food was great as always. My out of town company loved it.
Wonderful as always! The food is delicious - some new menu choices but the old standby chicken is always a good choice for sharing.
Worst restaurant experience literally ever. And I eat out several times weekly. The service, food and ambience was awful. I ate at Zuni Cafe a decade ago and it was fine. I'll spare the gruesome details, but what a complete disappointment this time.
Great birthday experience! Thank you.
The service was outstanding as they have retained some veterans (our server has been there 29 years). The pork chop and the rabbit sausage were excellent, and the wine list is very reasonable. Zuni will always be a favorite.
The food was great, the service was excellent
A longtime favorite, and they are taking lots of important precautions to protect us all. Love Zuni!
First meal back home in SF. Timothy was great.
Zuni Cafe food is always well prepared and the oysters were very fresh.
On this visit the service was overall cold and unfriendly.
The wait staff seemed woefully inexperienced. Not a deal breaker. Everyone has to start somewhere. Rushed cocktails without a chance to relax and peruse menu.
Although the service was excellent, I wouldn't recommend sitting outside at Zuni. You're right on the street, two feet from people walking by including those talking to themselves, playing music, etc. Plus the noise from the cars, buses, and motorcycles going down Market St. Not sure what Zuni could have done differently to shield diners (maybe more enclosed tables) but I've had better outdoor experiences at other restaurants. The food was quite good but I thought my halibut was a bit dry although the sauce was tasty. I probably won't go back until I feel comfortable sitting inside where they have spaced the tables a bit.
Delicious food in elegant restaurant with outstanding service
Get the chicken
The menu choices were limited. I have dined here several times and it has gone downhill.
Zuni Cafe is our absolute favorite restaurant in SF! We were excited for our first visit in over a year. Pros: the roast chicken and shoestring fries were just as I remember - simply spectacular! Cons: the caesar salad was overdressed, the pasta dish was ridiculously small, the sole was meh, and IMO, charging for bread in this caliber of a restaurant is tacky. My friends, who've never been here, were unimpressed. I am ambivalent about the included service charge, but I suppose I would tip that much anyway. However, there was another line for "tip" on the receipt, which is absurd.
The food is delicious
Everything was perfect for our 34th wedding anniversary!
The Caesar salad and roast chicken were better than ever. Our three-hour lunch was the perfect way to spend a lazy Saturday. One of my favorite restaurants anywhere.
Great service, great food!! What a great experience!!
Keeps me coming back!!
We enjoyed their signature dish of whole chicken on bread salad - which was delicious. We also had a Cesar salad which was very good. Not inexpensive - and they add 25% to the bill for their employees' living wage.
Zuni always delivers! We love the standards- the fries, chicken, but the lamb sandwich was amazing!
It's always fun to introduce new people to Zuni. The food and service were on point, as ever. I particularly enjoyed the olive poached tuna this time.
Came for my husband's birthday and disappointed. We both grew up locally and he has always wanted to try this place...my prior experiences here were always very good up until now. This was by far the worst visit ever here...service was very slow and server seemed inexperienced. Noted that it was for birthday celebration in the reservation and server had no idea until I mentioned to her. The food was lukewarm when it arrived and not as good as I remembered from last visit a couple years ago. The server disappeared for long stints, forgot to bring my husband's coffee, and had to ask another server who wasn't doing anything to get us the check finally.
We were confused about the automatic service charge and accidentally tipped on top of it, made worse because the dinner wasn't even worth the mandatory service charge.
Will likely not be back.
Food was good, but not special. Very expensive, not generous. Why ask diners to pay extra for bread? Or olives?
Zuni always great for date night, happy their back!
