Opening their first location in the spring of 1984, Helen Babalos & Thomas Makris brought us Anatoli Souvlaki. They had a dream of combining the food of Greece with great service to add some Mediterranean style to the North Vancouver restaurant selection. They opened in the sleepy neighbourhood of lower Lonsdale and lived above the restaurant to ensure the quality and service. They were able to create a North Vancouver staple, a successful thriving restaurant based on faithful patrons and a reputation that has been passed through generations.In 2011, the family-run restaurant was taken over by their sons Alexi and Iani. In 2015, the brothers, alongside their cousin Daniel Bergman, expanded on their parent’s dream by opening The Greek in Yaletown, with a focus on mezze-style dining. Now open in Gastown. The Greek is a reinterpretation of the North Shore's iconic Anatoli Souvlaki.

Thomas Makris, der auf der Insel Skopelos geboren wurde, verliebte sich einst in Helen Babalos. Sie lernten sich während einer Nordamerika-Tournee mit griechischen Tänzen 1974 im griechischen Restaurant Orestes kennen. Schon bald nach ihrer Heirat hatten sie die Idee, in Vancouver ein einzigartiges Lokal zu eröffnen: ein griechisches Restaurant, in dem jeder Teil einer großen Familie ist, in dem jeder köstliche, hausgemachte, authentische Speisen bei aufmerksamem Service genießen kann. Sie eröffneten 1984 das Anatoli Souvlaki im Norden von Vancouver. Im Jahr 2011 übernahmen ihre Söhne Alexi und Iani das Restaurant. Diese verwirklichten Anfang 2015 den ursprünglichen Traum ihrer Eltern in einem neuen Projekt. Zusammen mit ihrem Cousin Daniel Bergman eröffneten Alexi und Iani das Restaurant „The Greek by Anatoli“ in Yaletown. Das „The Greek by Anatoli“ ist auf kleine Gerichte zum Teilen oder „Mezze“ spezialisiert. Also kommen Sie und genießen Sie die griechische Atmosphäre des „Greek by Anatoli“.

Brought my friend from our of town and she loved it. 6:30pm on a Wednesday, before dinner rush is nice because it isn't as loud. Definitely recommend their food, atmosphere and the dessert right next door!
