It is operated Chef Juan Lopez Luna et sommelier/importer Lindsay Brennan. Alma offers a tasting menu experience inspired by the concept of "mar y montana", influenced by Juan's childhood memories of central Mexico, and time spent in Oaxaca. Lopez is one of the few chefs in Canada working with heritage corn from Mexico, grinding fresh masa each morning. The tortillas are made by hand with his grandmother's tortilla press. The wine list highlights sun-kissed Catalan wines from a group of winemaker-friends that Brennan imports directly to QC from Barcelona. Alma is the Canadian destination for Catalan wines - with a deep cellar of back vintages.

Bar Luz is a fonda fina — an elevated, intimate expression of traditional Mexican cuisine influenced by the taquerias and neighbourhood eateries of Mexico City. It is the latest project from the team behind Alma (Chef Juan Lopez Luna and sommelier Lindsay Brennnan) the beloved restaurant in Montreal’s Outremont neighborhood that has helped redefine Mexican cuisine in Canada. The menu draws inspiration from the matriarchs of Juan’s family, specifically his "abuela", reimagined through the lens of Quebec’s seasonal bounty. Rooted in memory, migration, and the deep flavors of family and conviviality, Bar Luz is right next door to Alma. Open for dinner Tuesday through Saturday (reservations recommended). At Bar Luz heirloom corn is imported from small farmers in Mexico. It is nixtamalized and milled in-house. Tortillas are pressed by hand à la minute and cooked on the traditional terra cotta comals.

Outstanding and beautifully presented dinner with creative wine pairings. Lovely garden terrace in the back, away from the noise and the street, is an enchanting oasis on a hot summer night. Each time we return we are impressed by the wonderful food and the warm and welcoming team that makes Anemone one of our favourites.

Excellent food, textures, flavors are all top notch. Great variety for everyone in the menu. Cocktails and wine recommendations were great, had a lovely time.
