Das Blackfriars wurde 2013 anlässlich des North East England Tourism Awards zum besten Restaurant gewählt. Das Restaurant stammt aus dem Jahr 1239 und war damals ein mittelalterliches Kloster. Es diente als Refektorium für die Mönche und ist heute eines der ältesten, speziell für diesen Zweck errichteten, geschichtsträchtigen Restaurants in Großbritannien. Das Restaurant besitzt 72 Plätze und serviert Ihnen klassische, deftige britische Gerichte mit saisonalen Produkten von regionalen Bauernhöfen und Märkten sowie Weine von einer großen, preisgekrönten Karte. Außerdem stehen Ihnen ein Bankettsaal mit 50 Plätzen und ein Workshop-Bereich mit 12 Plätzen zur Verfügung. Hier finden verschiedene Kurse statt. Vor kurzem wurde das Blackfriars von den Lesern des Independent zum „Besten Sonntagslunch-Restaurant in Newcastle“ und von den Lesern des Observer und der Metro Newspaper zum „Besten Restaurant in North East/Newcastle“ gekürt. Außerdem erhielt es eine AA-Rosette und wird im Good Food Guide, im Hardens und im Michelin Guide geführt.

    Superb food, excellent customer service - attentive but not over bearing. My party of three liked the way the restaurant had been developed in a manner that was in line with the history of Pegswood. In particular the retention of the original bricks that were used to build the miners cottages for the structure of the building. I have no hesitation in whole heartedly recommending "The Courtyard".

    This restaurant was absolutely lovely, with delicious food and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even more enjoyable. I would definitely recommend it!
