The views alone are worth the visit to 5th View – the surprising hidden gem of a restaurant on the fifth floor of Piccadilly’s branch of Waterstones. Sweeping across London towards Big Ben, it’s an outlook which any restaurateur would give sell his soul for. But rather than rest purely on their windows, 5th View have created an indulgent Champagne bar with a decadent feel and excellent food. Sumptuous and comfortable with a gentlemen’s-club-meets-boudoir-meets-country-mansion look, 5th View combines tactile furnishings with classic design and a buzzing atmosphere. Interesting menu but poor quality was our experience - do not recommend a visit for dinner as the restaurant staff appear keen to go home after 8pm! The fish and chips were overcooked and inedible with liitle interest from the management when we complained - disappointing

Got to my 815 reservation at 8 and found that the restaurant was closed and no one was there. I was never informed about this.

We came here for what I was hoping would be quite a fancy afternoon tea, having heard about the view. The food was nice enough, but the general vibe was of a pretty standard department store cafe and the view was middling.

I booked a table for a pre-theatre drink and meal for my husband's birhday. I requested a table with a nice view although I understand these requests aren't binding. What I wasn't told was that there was a function on in the restaurant side and the only tables available were at the back of the bar. I was shown to a dirty formica table inches from the neighbours. I objected and got a cleaner table even further back near the wall. The sharing platter was a few slices of salami and continental meat and four slices of brown bread from a sliced loaf. What a let-down.

5th View restaurant is a regular of mine. I often have meetings around Piccadilly, and it's a quiet haven away from the craziness down below. The food is simple but reliable and quick, and the staff are usually very friendly. I'm vegetarian, and the options aren't exactly inspiring, but always good. This last visit was for a business lunch, the food was great, and on a rare summer's day it was a great spot to look out over a bright and shiny London. It's also a great place for early evening cocktails! Their martinis are marvellous, made however you like it. Perfect....

We went to the 5th View for my birthday. I told my husband that I wanted a good dinner with a view and the restaurant did not disappoint. We had a great meal and the small portions (this is a good thing) ensured we could enjoy a starter, main, and dessert and coffee. We will definitely go back again.

Good place to pop to for a light lunch and some book browsing. Nice enough food and views, but not outstanding gastronomically speaking. Very convenient for a trip to the RA.

The waitress was lovely but there were too few of them for the number of customers and at one point all the tills went down which caused havoc with service. The view was very much hyped, which it unfortunately did not live up to and the decor was quite tired. The food was good but not great and the tables were very close together which caused the waitress to have to physically move a table with two seated diners across so we could get to our seats.

Such a shame as have been to the 5th floor View before and it was OK. We waited an hour and ten minutes for one starter - a mushroom tartlet that was over cooked - and a cold fish platter. We kept asking and were told that other people's food was coming out before ours because "it is quicker to make a salad". The manager wasn't particularly helpful - I felt sorry for the staff as they were very rushed and trying to make it better. They offered us a free coffee which we declined and took 20% off in total. Maybe ok for drinks rather than if you want to eat something.
