Aphotic, from the Greek (ἀ- + φῶς), meaning “without light,” makes reference to the layer of the ocean that receives less than 1% of sunlight (1000 meters in depth), comprising the majority of the world’s open ocean.

Aphotic Restaurant was born out of necessity. Chef Peter Hemsley set out to establish a best-practice seafood restaurant with transparency and traceability as core objectives, all while delivering unparalleled quality and creative intrigue for the benefit of our guests.

We work with local fisherman and women for the majority of our offerings – the Pacific Ocean is our backyard, after all. Our menus are seasonal, employing the great bounty of California produce to compliment our dynamic seafood program.

Aphotic serves a seasonal ten-course meal for $135 per person, plus service charge and tax. Expect your experience to encompass approximately two-and-a-half hours.

We also serve a limited bar menu; reservations are always recommended.

    Each course was a presentation of edible art. The most unusual dish was oyster ice cream which had me skeptical at first, but turned out to be as tasty as it was novel. Aphotic has a distillery license which allows them to concoct bespoke cocktails using botanicals. They should have 3 MIchelin stars in the future.

    Fantastic spot for a special occasion, especially if you are pescatarian. Every detail of each dish was exquisite. The formality of the presentation is offset by the overall casual atmosphere and the excellent playlist.

    We opted for the 10 course seafood tasting menu, we also got the wine pairing. The food preparation was ambitious but we felt like the results did not meet our expectations. Four of the courses (which were very small) were not delicious enough for me to finish. The wines were obscure and did pair with the food presentation but there was no "wow" wine. Overall I was disappointed. And..oyster ice cream.

    food was fantastic. drinks were amazing and perfectly paired. staff were all a delight and super helpful, unafraid to recommend. worth the splurge (for a visitor from small town CO)!

    Amazing! The food was delicious and innovative, the restaurant was so sexy and the fish smokers - wow! Can’t wait to come back!
