Here at the Hare & Hounds in Aberthin we serve good quality food and drinks in relaxed and informal surroundings.

First and foremost, our pub is a thriving local watering hole that has been keeping locals’ thirst at bay for over 300 years. We still do exactly that, with a range of great ales, interesting wines and our range of homemade seasonal drinks.

Alongside the bar, we offer a small, daily changing, seasonal menu in our dining room. We use the very best produce that the Vale of Glamorgan has to offer.The produce available to us from the best Vale producers, our own kitchen garden and our smallholding up the lane, dictate what is on the menu from day to day.

Everything is made from scratch in our kitchen, from our own sourdough bread and cultured butter, to our charcuterie and fresh pasta. This is not pretentious fine dining; its just about good food, whether you’ve been for a long walk with your dog or have something to celebrate.

We went for Mother’s Day lunch, and the restaurant was well staffed. Our main courses were very nice. However, we ordered 4 desserts. Only 2 arrived, when I questioned where our other 2 desserts where, we were told that that dessert was no longer available and were presented with two scoops of ice cream in a bowl. For a restaurant that takes pride in it’s bibbendum award i was expecting slightly more sophistication. No apology was offered and no offer of a reduction to our bill. As we left the restaurant nobody thanked us for our custom and so unfortunately we left with a rather sour taste after a promising start.

Food was nice but very pricey considering it’s compertition and inconsistent across tables. For example other tables were served a lamb rack on the bone where as we were just given lamb off the bone. Only one lamb dish on menu.

Ordered the crispy pig cheeks as I was intrigued how they could be crispy as they are nuggets of meat, when they arrived it was just 5 strips of cracking. The skin on the hake was flabby not crispy which you would expect , it tasted nice as did the souffle. Average Lunch not worth a detour.

We enjoyed the imaginative menu, great cooking and friendly service in equal parts. I look forward to a return visit very soon!

After several visits at different times of day and with a different number of people of varying ages I can without hesitation say this is the best restaurant I have been to for some time. Consistently interesting menu beautifully prepared, relaxed environment and very pleasant staff, excellent wine. The Hare and Hounds really is an absolute GEM! I will be back regularly.

Near faultless dinner experience. The food is classic French, locally sourced and seasonal. The tasting menu of 10-11 courses is exceptional value and a great night out. Wine list is great, service attentive. Highly recommend. It’s a little gem in the vale of Glamorgan

Booked this for Christmas Eve lunch and the atmosphere was festive and buzzy. The team are all friendly and passionate about the place. We were really well looked after. The table by the woodburner is very cosy and the food is wonderful esp the home made bread and glorious desserts.
