The Canteen is a full-service neighbourhood restaurant in Downtown Dartmouth, serving up chef-inspired seasonal fare for lunch, brunch and dinner. At the helm in the kitchen is award-winning chef and co-owner Renee Lavallee. Her seasonal menus are influenced by classic French, Italian and traditional Nova Scotian cuisine – with a little bit of Renée’s magic thrown in. Signature items include The Canteen Burger, The Crobster Roll, Seafood Chowder and more.

Da es im Innenraum bereits um 17:30h laut war, entschieden wir uns für einen Tisch im Patio. Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich. Wir bestellten die angesagte Crobster Roll und eine Flasche Tidal Bay. Das Essen wurde extrem schnell gebracht. Es wurde auf einem Metalltablett und in der für Wings üblichen Plastikschale serviert. Nungut: der Name sagt es: Canteen! Die Flasche Wein nahmen wir dann mit nach Hause. Schade, der erste Eindruck mit Stoffservietten und edlen Weingläsern war sehr gut; der Crobster sehr schmackhaft, aber bitte auf Porzellan servieren!

With a total of five locations across Atlantic Canada, Gahan House has become an East Coast staple dedicated to creating memorable experiences. We get our name from John Gahan, a prominent merchant and importer of wines, teas, and groceries on Prince Edward Island in the 19th century. His former place of residence is now the location of the original Gahan House in Charlottetown, P.E. To share our award-winning ales with more of Atlantic Canada, we opened our doors and our taps in Halifax, N.S., Fredericton, Saint John, and Moncton, N.B




We began as a brewpub, and we stay true to our beginnings by having a brew system in-house, ensuring that the beer we serve is as fresh as possible. With a delicious menu, handcrafted ales, and fresh East Coast oysters in our welcoming Gahan atmosphere, we hope you feel right at home.

Wir waren bereits zum zweiten Mal in diesem ausgezeichneten Restaurant. Der Name ist leider etwas irreführend, es ist kein Café im europäischen Sinn. Es gibt aber auch eine kleine Auswahl an Gebäck und phantastischen Cappuccino; von 3:00 bis 5:00pm ist Happy Hour, bedeutet die Flasche Wein gibt es für 50% und Cocktails sind auch günstiger. Das Essen ist wirklich französisch! Endlich mal keine Burger und Pommes. Neben all den vielen neuen Restaurants in Halifax ist dies mein absoluter Lieblingsplatz. (Die Musik ist manchmal etwas zu nervig.)
